a search of older posts from 2004 - 2008/9 say ramp wait time is approx 2 years. i assume that hasn't changed too much? seems like a decent company to work for if you can handle the wait.

thanks

The list of people who have gone on from Perimeter to 'bigger and better' things (AC, Cathay, WJ, etc..) is fairly long. That says something about the quality of the place. I can't speak to the wait on the ground at present, but, IIRC, if you take the move north to YTH it might be a little shorter. A bunch of good guys and gals there. Expect to work long hours, both on the ground and in the air. Considering the age of the a/c, and how much they get used, I'd say that the maintenance is pretty good - but I have no first-hand knowledge of this. You might get flying sooner elsewhere, but that's a matter of chance..

Good luck.

It is a great place to start. Especially if you are still working on your license. Everyone is on the same "pre-pilot" seniority list so if you get to number 1, and are not done, you just sit there. Can also work in your favor if you come in at a time with all of your ratings when a lot of people are not done. You jump the list quite far.

It is hard to put a wait time on it though. There are quite a few people who have been working there for a few years who are just finishing their ratings and getting online now. People coming in with all their ratings done are averaging one year.

I could try and spend an hour typing all the reasons I think Perimeter is the place to go but that is a decision for everyone to make on their own. For me it was the schedule, type of flying (Schd, medevac), the pay was decent, and it is probably one of the only airlines in this country that will train you with 200 hours to fly a plane like the metro. The company is strong and is not going anywhere, (I bet more on the side of expansion in the next few years).

Only hire from within. Last time this wasn't the case, Jazz was hiring people with 1500hrs right seat time.

Perimeter is a great place to work, and start your career in aviation. With the advancements in active noise cancelling technology, it may even be a life time thing :smt040 .

Pros:
-You have a Pilots Association watching out for you
-Promotions are done on seniority assuming you've studied and are fit for the job.
-Multiple jumpseat agreements with major carriers. (so you can go home)
-Scheduled for 16 days a month. Included blocks, spare, standby and training.
-Salary, you get paid if you fly or you don't even get a spare call
-Guys are getting 50-100 hrs a month in the book
-Medevac flying and pay
-Possible advancement to Dash-8
-You get to live in YWG or YTH (both are cities)
-You are home every night (exceptions being medevac and charters)
-Solid company. If they went under every reserve would declare a state of emergency
-Friendly, reasonable and approachable management
-Great maintenance
-No pressure to fly overloaded
-Excellent training (metro sim, department)
-Established bases at destinations with agents
-Paid medical and admin fee
-Paid uniform
-Experience doing SIDs, STARs, and every sort of approach there is (except RNP and CAT2/3ILS)
-Legitimate avionics
-And, one great family atmosphere!

Cons:
-No retirement / pension program. (I would guess because most people aren't lifers). It can be supplemented with a pretty good EIC employee share purchase plan though.
-Manitoba = cold.
-The smell of Chicken Delight is nauseating

Even if the wait on the ground is 2 years, it's worth it. If you have 250hrs, write your IATRA and get on the Metro 3.

My 2 cents 8)

Perimeter is a great place to start as everyone else have mentioned.

If you get on the ramp/dispatch/check in etc. wanting a pilot spot - they will give you 2 free sims a month at their flight school. I learned more there during my 2 free sims a month than part of my IFR rating at Cornwall I finished at Perimeter. I would imagine it is the same story now.

There are a few spots within the company that if you give in a minimum amount of time (1 year/18 mos.) they will give you a free IFR rating. I don't know if they are still allowing people to do that, but it was great for some of my friends.

No training bond and a descent place to work.

Well that is going to open up the flood gates!

I will agree with what everyone else have said about Perimeter. It probably is THE BEST 704 company to work for in Canada. Sure we have a bit of 705 going on but the meat and potatoes is the 704/703/Medevac Stuff. a

It gives the new guys a good chance to work up there way to the top. They treat all the pilots great. The Jump seat agreements are amazing - including a recent addition that we are all pleased with. It's a 16 day month. The pay is not bad - more so when you become a taxiing specialist - however the fo's do better then places such as Carson, CMA, Air Georgian etc..

I know it is better then some places you can end up but YTH is, well what it is although those guy do a lot of flying and can get good more then a week off straight in a month so they can get out.

Those of you who have 250 and your IATRA or 750 and the A's written will spend less time on the ramp then those that have 200-250 hours as you can get onto the Metro 3's as well as everything else.

 That's what these boards are for! Helping each other out!

Perimeter is a great place to learn in a two crew environment. There are not many places out there who are going to take you with your 215 hours and let you fly a turbine for a decent salary and NO training bond.

I was wondering who would be the person to talk to at Perimeter about hiring info if you were going to call them?

Unless you know someone who can get you a name/number, it is hard. A few months ago management took up the position of no "pop-ins". If you go to the airport they will direct you to http://perimeter.ca/career/careers_apply.html .

Just want to say, I can back up every positive comment in this thread. Started with the company not too long ago and I think its pretty much the best place to start your career in Aviation. If you don't have all your ratings done and can get hired even better. I've seen Metro 2 FOs as young as 19 and metro 2 captains as young as 23. Pilots come here to work from all over Canada. Looks like some promising movement going on right now as well. If anyone wants some more information just PM me.

Cheers

Thanks for the information everyone, Perimeter really does sound like the kind of place I want to be. As somebody who has lots of airline experience in customer service/ticketing/reservations, etc, and who is finishing my multi IFR right now and will be done by March at the latest (with 300TT and around 200PIC), do I apply strictly as a Reservations agent or should I include that I'm a pilot who will be looking to move to the flight line when the opportunity becomes available? I'm looking to move out East this spring, and Perimeter is looking like my first choice. Any tips or more info? Thanks guys, I appreciate it.

They have a "no pop in" rule now. I think they got tired of hundreds per month showing up wanting to touch the airplanes. You can apply online, or better yet, if you can somehow track down the email address of one of the managers (of the department you want) that is your best shot. If you know someone who works there, get them to take care of it for you, that is the best option yet.

Can anyone tell me about the Beech 99s? Where are they based and what kind of flying do they do? How much do they fly? Do the pilots get trained on other types as well?
