Cover Letters (Again) -

Post by osprey747 »

Question: applying for a job at a government agency with an army of human resources personnel (not one particular person to address it to, from what I gather) - how to address - Dear_____? Or should I keep digging until I found out exactly who's desk it ends up on first? (even then - that said person is probably just the 'initial screener') -

Appreciate any advice - thanks in advance !

To whom it may concern;

Also a good salutation to end most correspondence is:

I find "To Whom it may concern" sounds too much like a reference letter. "Dear Sirs:" is still considered to be the most appropriate bussiness salutation, but will likely offend. The same women might also be offended by "madam" in "Dear Sir/Madam:"

I just avoid the whole sexist issue by only applying to companies that employ only men.

Seriously, just leave the "Dear ______:" line out. Nobody will even notice.
