I strongly doubt more than a tiny handful of people bought at $37 and it would have been a plain old bad buy. That was their all time high, was overvalued, and it held only for a few days before starting a long correction. TRZ has spent almost 80% of it's life below $15. Nobody in the market is entitled to anything.
The point that I was making , and flew over your head , it that people that invest in stocks should not be called "greedy" simply because they are willing to take a risk. Using works like risk taker would be more appropriate. Without investors in Canada , we run the risk , of being owned and controlled by foreign powers.

Hardly over my head. But since you brought that up, It's only a point if it makes sense.
Accordingly, what you stated was therefore more of a weak analogy at best and barely representative of the viewpoint you clarified after.

Not responding to the topic, just your accusation. We agree on the market! Cheers.

Perhaps we have different ideas of greed.

I want to get as much from my investments as possible within my personal level of risk tolerance. I am absolutely greedy in the markets... that's why we're all there... some do it better than others and have different tolerances.

I check and limit that greed with my research and personal comfort limits, I close out positions and take gains even when I feel they may have more room to run and I diversify them. The amount I've cashed out on AC over the last number of years... if I still held it today... wow... should have been greedier, but I also slept better not having such a large position against the risk of an airline/economy/terrorist disaster...

Anyway. Don't get hung up on the word 'greed'. Call it what you like, but people aren't putting money in the markets to do any favours for anyone but themselves.

I hope AC doesn't buy AT, what a pain in the ass for us AC pilots.

But Calin is brilliant, so he must see something there?

600 plus highly experienced pilots in an industry where they are diminishing. A fleet of aircraft including 15 brand new 321's with the option for (Ibelieve) 15 more. Market share. Loyal passenger base. Slots. Network. Land assets. And the defensive move against Onex/WJ. Yeah, I'd say there's something there.

Yet they do not own one single airplane, 100 % are leased.

Looks like Mache Group has removed it's financing clause from it's offer. I don't know if they got the money from the Quebec government or elsewhere.

One interesting thing that I don’t think anyone will know is whether or not Onex was in talks with transat as well
We will never know for certain. However the timelines overlap between Onex talking to WJ, and WJ making an offer to Transat. In all likelihood Onex was attempting to stay under the radar and WJ was used as a proxy to put feelers out to Transat. If Onex could get WJ to nab Transat before showing their face, there would be no time for AC to react.

As it turned out the WJ offer to Transat instead prompted the Transat BOD to go public and announce it had an unsolicited decent offer and sought higher bidders. This forced Onex/WJ to announce what had been going on behind closed doors. AC jumped immediately.

I don’t think this is over by a long shot. I don’t think Onex has finished. AC right now is probably just watching and running down the clock on what may now be a three way race.
Pure speculation
Of course it is speculation. Speculation based on a history of how Schwartz operates.

https://www.lapresse.ca/affaires/entrep ... ransat.php

Who do you figure the unnamed partner is? Yes I’m speculating, but again, it has his hallmarks.

Either way it is now possibly a three way horse race at the eleventh hour.

Mach waives financing conditions

Air Transat and Transat brands to be maintained to complement the Air Canada, Air Canada Rouge and Air Canada Vacations brands.
Interesting point there, so the Transat brand will still be around. Does this mean the pilots will be integrated or remain separate as well?

Mach can't come with a "due diligence" period now... It's firm, no BS, no conditions, offer at $14/share or better, or hit the road.

The ACPA contract prohibits pilots not on its seniority list from operating aircraft with 80 seats or greater for Air Canada. The purchase therefore requires integration.

What isn't known is if AC will run Transat like it runs Rouge. A seperate entity that uses ACPA pilots.

In the short term everything will be seperate. It will take a year or two to integrate. Longer term I would suspect that Transat's brand is more valuable than that of Rouge. I suspect the Rouge brand will disapear. In fact I asked someone in management that direct question. The answer was this likely means the end of Rouge.

But again. That will take a couple of years.

Montreal real estate developer Group Mach is offering Transat A.T. shareholders $14 per share in an effort to scoop up 19.5 per cent of the airline's shares in order to block its sale to Air Canada.
