YVR Training Offers

Post by VFRDreamer »

Hi there. First time starting a topic but I just received a standby offer for July training and was wondering if anyone else heard back.

I am very hopeful to get in for this session! Hoping to get a tribe going for the July session. Also if people have ideas on finding a pet friendly place in Vancouver please send me a message, since I'll be moving from Calgary once I have confirmation.

Also I started application September 2016...this has been a looooong wait!

Luck to all!!

Congrats!

I'm a bit confused when you say 'standby' offer... I thought if you were in the pool and got selected for a training position, then it was a 'training offer'? I didn't know they had 'standby' offers?

Was this VFR/IFR or FSS?

In any case, good luck!

standby is exactly that - if someone doesn't want the seat, then they start looking at the standby list. A course likely won't start unless it's full.

IFR started a few days ago, so this will be VFR. FSS train in Kamloops now.

Pretty excited. And yea as stabalizedapproach said it's for VFR (my top choice too) and yea it means I have to do prep as normal but I might not start this session. All I can hope is that I'm first one up on standby!

MikeGolfEcho - honestly as far as I understand the only thing you can be sure regarding the program and process is when you finally pass, up until then you could be out at any point. Even during the program they have such intense evaluations that for VFR only 60% pass (I heard that they have been trying to improve this.) I believe IFR is 50% pass and FSS is the best at like 75-80%.

I am in the IFR course that just started, and we have at least two people (maybe three) who were standby offers!
Wishing you the best of luck and hope you get a seat!

VFRDreamer,

How did you get a training offer or a standby offer in YVR when you applied in YYC? I thought you get an offer within the FIR you applied to?

Hey Whatisttv,

I put in a FIR transfer request for my application once I passed the in person assessment (now FEAST). I do suspect that the switch is why my application is at nearly 3 years though. Worth it for me but does make it difficult.

Anyone know how many times a year the in person assessment is held in YVR?

I believe it's only once, but may be twice occasionally. Not very often at all.
