This forum has been developed to discuss general aviation related issues in Canada

Here are a few current threads that have little or no relation to Canada at all:

- Lightning Detection

- Top Gun academy was set up by the British

- Fedex cargo crash in Tokyo

- 14 dead in PC-12 crash in Butte, Montana

- Inflight Entertainment Still a Problem 10 yrs after SwissAir

- Rapping Flight Attendant

- Alaskan volcano erupts, spewing ash skyward

- JetA weight

- What type of logbook do you use?

- Fedex MD-11 at Narita - not nice

- Young A330 FO

- a380 woes

- Randolph Sunglasses

- Excel Air and GOL Airlines

Perhaps a slight reordering (ie bring the Misc forum closer to the top so it's more convenient to post in) and adding (ie General Comments - Worldwide) or combining a forum or two (ie Flight Training and Technical) might make the stated purpose of the forum more achievable?

We have lightning in Canada

Mt Redoubt volcano plume, while not being tracked by Montreal yet, could end up in Canadian airspace by tomorrow.

We have Jet A in Canada.

I hear some folks still keep paper logs in Canada.

I wear sunglasses.

However, for the rest it is a creditable point. Perhaps we should rename it to General Comments Forum.

Are there really enough Generals on this site to warrant their own forum ?

True. But lightning is also found in other parts of the world and lightning detection is no way unique in or to Canada.

I will give you this one.

True. But t is also found in other parts of the world and it weighs the same no matter where you go. Freeze point MIGHT vary a bit.

You win again but just barely on this one.

Code:
I wear sunglasses.

I have seen pilots in other far away lands also wearing sunglasses. This would appear to not be a phenomenon unique to Canada.

That is true.

I am not sure I understand your point. It should not be in the Canada forum unless it only applies to Canada? Wouldn't that invalidate most of the stuff of interest in Canada?

The stated intent of the forum is above. If it does not apply to Canada it needs to be elsewhere. A380 woes and Obama's intent to end pilots carrying guns doesn't fit.

If the thread has Canadian content or connection it belongs. I would suggest a reordering of the forums to facilitate making it easier to post the "very general" comments under Misc. The General Comments (Canada) forum has become a welcoming stop to discuss the day's events and has really lost it's direction (all of course IMHO and it's not my board but i do enjoy it and wish to see it continue as an excellent source of info).

Want a tip to keep your blood pressure down? Bookmark this: http://www.avcanada.ca/forums2/search.php?search_id=newposts Then you only have to sort through the latest posts without having to search for non-Canadian posts in the General section. Hope it helps!

No need to bookmark anything, there is a neat little button on the top right of the screen, right under the date labelled "view new posts".

Makes things so much easier.

I agree the name does not reflect the nature of the forum. The misc forum, however, is for topics not related to aviation. AvCanada is an aviation forum, but we have one place for our members to talk about other stuff. So misc would not be where the non Canadian aviation stuff would go.

I see aviation as a global thing, and do not see any point in excluding topics pertinent to aviation based on their geography. The MD-11 crash in Tokyo is not just of interest to Japan, incidents like these can affect the entire airline industry.

However the link above is a good one. The View new posts option was my favorite addition when Joe upgraded the forums. Even using that, I only read about 10% of the topics on the site. In most cases it is fairly easy to see if a topic will be of interest to me or not just from the title.

Thanks for the heads up on view new posts. My new favorite tool.

A quick look under the forum in question today reveals the new topic of F22 Down. A US jet crashes on US soil and it's related to Canada?
