Beaver Amphib Questions

Post by DougRonan »

Looking for a Piston Beaver on Amphibs - looking for some qualified opinions on the best amphibs - EDO 4930 amphibs, Wipline 6000 or 6100 amphibs, Aerocet?? Also Baron STOL kit or not?? Baron Wing/tail Mod?? New BX wings etc??

Main questions is which amphibs - Wips or EDOS??

Also looking for a Good Beaver on Amphibs - let me know if you've got one or know of one.

Thanks,
Doug Ronan

A lot of the answer will depend on the type of flying, i.e., small lakes or big lakes. The reduced performance characteristics of amphibs would suggest the baron stol kit. Whip is probably the number 1 fkoat for amphibs. Just my observations as a straight float bever guy. You,ve sure come a long way from pottageville.

I would say definitely on the Baron stol / wing angle. It is now Called the Stolairus Stol Kit, by Stolairus Aviation of Kelowna BC http://www.stolairus.com/ . Not many of them come up for sale, So if you find a solid beaver that you want to put the kit on get in touch with Bill Ross.

I flew a Beaver on Edo's for about 400 hrs. I liked it. You could notice the wheel compartment causing drag on take-off though. I found you could take-off with anything you could stuff into it, given a long enough runway. I had 11,000'. Short-fields were amazing on wheels!
