Re: Gold Rush Tony looking for pilot
Cool, on an aviation forum looking for a heavy equipment operator. I wonder if he's on any heavy-equipment forums looking for an aeroplane operator. Expanding the search parameters I suppose. I can do a pretty good "Yosemite Sam" impression, I wonder if that counts as an "additional skill"?
If I'd known I was going to live this long, I'd have taken better care of myself

Actually, Tamarak Inc. didn't post that, I did (copy and paste from a newspaper ad).
Just thought it might be of general interest given the popularity of that show, and who knows, maybe someone on here needs a job!

Re: Gold Rush Tony looking for pilot
They'll pay a 500tt pilot 8k a month
I got some land in Florida I'll sell ya too.
Still for a 500hr job, why not, probably won't pay well, but it'll make ya famous!

Re: Gold Rush Tony looking for pilot
That pay wouldn't be unheard of in the Yukon for a 206 driver. Remember it's a short season, so 8k per month for 4-5 months isn't an amazing annual salary. Mind you coupled with EI for the remaining 8 months a year and you are right in Encore captain wages range...

It's $20-25 an hour. 11 hour days. Time and a half after 8 hours. Probably 30-40 hours flying a month. The rest of the time your driving a rock truck or excavator for the mine.

Re: Gold Rush Tony looking for pilot
You know, I don't know if I would be comfortable flying with a low-time commercial bush pilot who would not take this job.
My attitude would be planes AND FRONT END LOADERS AND BULLDOZERS....... Cool I'm in
The experience and knowledge you would gain, not just in aviation, would be priceless.

Women and planes have alot in common
Both are expensive, loud, and noisy.
However, when handled properly both respond well and provide great pleasure

Re: Gold Rush Tony looking for pilot
Definitely a unique experience. I spent over 25 years working up there. Not sure what Tony's shift schedule is like.....ours and a lot of others were 12 hrs/day 7 days a week with one day off a month.
I can't think of a better place to spend the summer.......not very often does someone get the opportunity to play with all those different toys.

Re: Gold Rush Tony looking for pilot
I know the strips Tony puts this airplane into intimately, and this is not a gig for a 500 hour guy trying to find his first job in the bush. For a guy with 300 hours driving a 206 to the limits, it should be a piece of cake, but its far from easy. If anyone on here takes the job, please pm me and I'll give you all the advise I can.

Re: Gold Rush Tony looking for pilot
I agree with Redneck. I had 1000 hrs on unimproved strips when I took this job back in 2012 and no 206 time. Some of the most challenging flying I've ever done. But a lot of fun though.
Tony is awesome, but thinks of an airplane the same as an excavator or dozer. Pay close attention on your walk around. These strips can be rough. One day I was hooking up the static line and noticed the bolt on the front axel was hanging out. The nut had come off at sometime.
If you don't want to go he won't force you, but don't be afraid to say no.
Good Luck

Not very gentlemanly to divulge on the internet the details of how you got intimate with Tony's 206 strip.Redneck_pilot86 wrote:I know the strips Tony puts this airplane into intimately, and ...... I'll give you all the advise I can.

Re: Gold Rush Tony looking for pilot
Out of curiosity what other creek is The Viking on aside from Hunker? Seems having a driver for the 1 minute and 20 second flight from his hunker strip to YDA is overkill . Unless he's looking for a Whitehorse chauffeur. I can also attest to the 900' tailings pile airstrips in that area being a bit much for a Bush strip greenhorn. Especially in FER. The small tail on that machine makes a heavy aft loaded takeoff.........interesting.

He fly's to his claim on Indian River where the dredge is now located. Never got close to gross weight. Usually a guy or two or a few parts. Mostly fly Tony back and forth between his two operations.
