I met the helicopter pilot involved in the late '70s. He said that was the most awful moment in his life, watching that happen as he lay there with terrible injuries.
He had come into our base slinging a Sikorsky, minus the rotor blades, underneath a Bell.

Yes that had to be a defining and sobering moment in anyone's aviation career.
