Fleet Canuck C-FENO
Greetings,
New to the forum, I acquired Canuck C-FENO last
year. It now resides in SW Michigan and is
the only Canuck to ever be US Registered.
Love the plane, done a few upgrades, new wiring,
new instrument panel and radio's. Also
Disc brakes, Scott 3200 tail wheel and
some 26in Goodyears.
I'm currently teaching a coworker to fly, what
a fun plane.
Two things,
1. Looking for some Fleet ski's
2. Looking for some floats, preferably Fleet,
But anything with official documentation.
I hold a US A&P IA certificate so repairs or
US Field Approvals aren't a problem.
Dave

Re: Fleet Canuck C-FENO
I must say it looks a bit different with the larger gear.
We just put the skis on today. Most people use Federal A1500A skis, though I think others are also approved. Not sure if you know how the Fleet skis and floats work. They are very classic, but at least with the skis, add some weight to the installation as the wheels are left on. Some people are not comfortable with the original float installation (no front spreader bar) but others say it works just fine. I have not flown them on floats, so cannot say first hand.
I hope you have many years of good flying with ENO, they are a great little aeroplane.

Did that Canuck come from St. Thomas?
--Air to Ground Chemical Transfer Technician turned 4 Bar Switch Flicker and Flap Operator--
Re: Fleet Canuck C-FENO
My question on the floats comes from some advice that the original
floats are a little "under floated" for a Canuck.
I'm guessing EDO 1400's would be the same and 1650's to heavy.
Bauman 1500's maybe? Anyone willing to share experience and
Specs?

Thanks Bagbat. She still looks pretty much the same. The fabric is still good and we are now over 22,400 hours. I really should get her out more often! We were out twice last week on skis in perfect conditions. When the snowmobile trails get established there will be even more places to go. Yesterday the river looked quite tempting. There were trucks out at the fishing shacks but there was a lot of open water upstream. We can wait a bit.
I found the shot of the ENO model Dave. If you want it in higher resolution, let me know.

Flew ENO once, at least 15 years ago at St. Thomas when I was sitting around for a day. Mar 23 2003 with instructor Larry Barrett. I believe he had quite a bit of experience on the machine. I remember the seats were not adjustable making for a bit of a tight squeeze. Also flew a Bellanca Cruisemaster another time down there. Hate to see these rare aircraft no longer available for rent.

Re: Fleet Canuck C-FENO
Flew CF-ENO frequently in the late 70s, when she belonged to the London Ontario Flying Club, and you're absolutely right. She is a joy to fly. To the best of my knowledge she was one of two purchased new, or more likely from the military by the club, because at that time she was painted the same dull yellow as the AT-6, better known as the Harvard trainers in Canada. The second Canuck crashed long before I belonged to the club, but ENO was still there and flying beautifully when I last saw her.
Legend has it that one instructor, who was a bit of a character, flew over the tower in a stiff headwind, put her into slow flight mode, and let the wind carry her backwards over the tower, lowered the nose, poured on the coal, and carried on back over the tower again. Needless to say, he received a very warm reception from the controllers, when he landed.
She looks absolutely beautiful with her new paint job, and I have to say that I'd rather be flying in the left seat of ENO, than first class on any airline in the world.

Hi Dave, I am wanting to put tundra tires on a Canuck but only 22 in. Do you know of any paperwork (approval) to put these on.
Thank you Bob

Re: Fleet Canuck C-FENO
My first taildragger was in ENO with Larry Barrett as well about 15 years ago in St. Thomas. He described how flying a taildragger requires much more feet work compared to flying a C-152 and he likened it do doing it a dance. He had a name for this dance: The ENO Shuffle. Now every time I'm flying and using the rudders a lot, I think back to doing the ENO Shuffle.

Saw the "new" FENO today... it's an Encore Q400.
The old one was better.

Hi Dave
I flew ENO quite a bit in the late 60's in YXU.
On Nov 26, 1966, I took my girlfriend, now my wife up in ENO, for her first plane ride, and, as my first passenger, after earning my licence.
Great memories and nice to see she is still being flown.
