ha ha, i was wondering who wearable air was! I flew both ocd and ehj. last i heard ocd was in pieaces because no one could pay the bill to put it back togeather. I was in round lake a couple years ago and there was a 180 GNNO parked at the dock.

I was on IUU(180) and EHJ. I can't believe that OCD is in shambles, what happend? They just redid the floats back in 2002.

OCD was flying last summer.

Nice shots of the Wilga. What's that like to fly? Great visibility and a reputation for STOL.
Really nice pictures, Rowdy.

wow rowdy id love to use this picture as a background any chance you have a high resolution i could download, also how did you get to colors to pop like that SLR?
Re: Pix From a Swamper - Remembering Craig Chenell
Its quite a joy to fly. With the IO540 it comes out of the water incredibly quick. Climbs nicely but its slow. I dont think we got above 95kts at any point.. Has a LOT of range, I think the endurance with full tanks is close to 7hrs! Vis is great out the sides with no struts to get in the way and the big windows in the flip up doors. The only fault I could find is the difficulty getting to the dipstick with it on floats.

Here are a couple more of the wilga...

Great shots Rowdy. I had no idea they'd traded the round engine for the flat pack. You must think you're flying a Spit with a yoke like that.
Re: Pix From a Swamper - Remembering Craig Chenell
Hey GilleyBean! Yes those are shots from Harrison lake at the hot springs dock.. MP and I were up at harrison a couple weeks ago making sure he felt comfy on floats. This was a visit for some tea at the hot springs.. then snuck back and did some circuits on the fraser, stave and alouette. Found the epitome of glassy water on alouette. Didnt have time to get a pic though.
Sid, it takes a bit to get used to that yoke, especially having spent so much time lately in dehav. products. The Flat six might not have as much power as the m14 round'n, but it makes up for it in other ways, especially on those little canoes strapped to the bottom
some other beastys at ft lang..

The new gig has started to pick up. Here's a shot from the Yukon, apologies for quality, I didn't realize how badly the noise reduction reduced the quality...

Shot from last Summer just before heading up to Natuashish, Mistatasin Lake and Border Beacon.
JDE at the ever-so-scenic Border Beacon.
Looking forward to getting out and about some more this Summer.

Nice pics arp. Are the buildings and strip still there at Border Beacon? Last time I was there was on a fuel haul with the DC-3, must have been 1970 or 1971.

Re: Pix From a Swamper - Remembering Craig Chenell
there's some shacks and huts but last summer we hauled a ton of shingles, roofers and tradesfolk in there. so the Innu have been busy doing some "Home Improvements" recently. i'll be interested to see their handiwork when we start going back in there in not too long.
this is some of what was there last summer.
lol i think i found some of your fuel hauls when i was there too.

Re: Pix From a Swamper - Remembering Craig Chenell
There used to be a lot of caribou around there, as well as some decent fishing, that must be what the Innu are doing there with the camp. That dump looks like some of the original drums from when the station was built. Initially I'm guessing they used the Canso for the fuel haul, with a mixed load of drums and tanked fuel from the right wing tank. We used onboard tanks with both the DC-3 and C-46. As an aside, it's pretty stony soil there and not a very long growing season, but a certain controlled substance could be cultivated with ease.

are those drums @ N/S Henick lk narrows? dont step on the gold vain. Boo crossing.

I'm going to go sentimental on you guys that post pictures. This page is one of the main reasons I frequent Avcanada. I started my career in the eastern arctic a long time ago. So many memories of flying around, visiting so many communities, fishing, partying under the midnight sun, staff house stupidity, hangovers, etc. The float pictures take me back to being a kid with my dad, on fishing trips to remote lakes.
I'm not in the country anymore, but seeing these pictures just reminds me of the unspoiled beauty that true northerners experience and fall in love with. Spend time in the bush and you not only never forget it, but there comes a day when you really truly miss it.
Thanks everyone.
Brian

Nice pics esp, especially of Mt. Ortell.
CSW used to be a TC a/c & I've got quite a few good hours on her. Are TC still operating CSW? The pic doesn't sugget that. If not, who has her now?
