Bombing lifestyle ?

Post by wasYKnowFJ »

I've been flying floats for about 12 years now and loving it, but I've always had my eye on flying water bombers. 215, 415, Canso, and now the 802 - seems to me it's the best flying you can do with your pants on.

Every job is a balance of factors, and one great perk to float flying is that you are generally back home every night. I'm a family man, and look forward to getting home. I'm sure that every company works things differently, but generally once the season starts am I correct in assuming that I wont be back home for a few months?

From what I've seen, a crew is given a base to work from - until a big fire causes a reshuffle, and generally one crew to an aircraft (NWT). Would it be any different in B.C. or Alta.? Can you fill me in on what kind of lifestyle I could expect? Time away, days off (if they exist), best case/worst case seasons. How about family members catching up with you if you are based in a town? Hey, even convicts get conjugal visits...

Thanks in advance.
