Has anyone heard of a Beaver being used as a jump plane? I know the front doors aren't ideal but there are a couple of Alaska cargo mod doors that open up gull wing style.
Just curious.

Problem is the closing of the throttle and the dive back to the ground would shock-cool your poor Junior and likely kill it off early.

There was a -2T based at a DZ in Tully Australia for quite a few years... looks like it may have moved down to Sydney.

The Standard Beaver is a great plane for hauling a huge load off the groung in a short distance; but your going to get old getting it to altitude.

'Beaver's as a jump plane' is a conversation that comes up at every dropzone across Canada at least once a year. There's a reason why thy aren't used- they've been tried before many times, and were always outclassed by even lowly Cessna's for the job. Climb rate is one deficiency. An obnoxious prop blast (because the Beav is a high drag airplane and needs a lot of hp just to stay flying) is another feature that nixed it's jump career. Tailwheel is another feature that is a drawback to the type. Sure, the Porter is tailwheel, but look at how many operators run them... insurance becomes the killer, hence there are few flying in jump ops.. heck, at all.

Various military forces have used the Beaver as a jump plane. I did jump out of one in 1971.

There was a -2T (Black Beaver) used in Europe quite successfully for many years as a jump ship, until a crash in 2007
There was another one in Europe as well, but I can't remember what the reg was.
As well, there is a one off Garrett powered Beaver in Australia that has been throwing people since the 70's, damn sweet plane if you ask me
A jump company in Arizona used a piston Beaver for a while, but sold it last year.
