Hi,

I have been interested in float flying for about 4 to 5 years and I have been reading through the avcanada post about float flying for awhile.

I have about 900 hours single engine on wheels and the 7hour float rating.

I want to be prepared for the upcoming float season early, I am looking to get my first dock or flying job (whichever is offered) in Northern Ontario. I want to highlight the best places to work with in Ontario on a map early on so I can be prepared to take the drive up and meet people.

If anyone has some advice here on where to look first I am interested in hearing and also when would be the best time to take a drive to find work.

Thanks!

Kenora, Nestor Falls, Red Lake, Sioux Lookout, Savant Lake, Armstrong. I'm not to sure where in NE Ontario would be good places to start looking.
Start building your list of operations now, then call them and send out resumes in mid January till the season starts about the first of May. Road trip without a job can be hit or miss without doing lots of calls have having some positive phone calls to follow up on, but generally in NW Ontario the ice is out anywhere from the 20th of April to the end of May. Just remember to show up looking like you are ready to work, not applying to work for a bank! Also make sure your car is in good shape or have CAA, its a long ways between places to get work done! And watch out for moose that time of year, but most important go into it with a positive attitude and have fun.

Welcome to posting world of Avcanada!

I can't find it, but I think there was an excellent post a while back about the "road trip". I remember something about where the roads end and places that start with "Fort" or "Lake" or something.

I have nothing to add, but I wish ya the best of luck! Maybe someone else here would be kind enough to put a link to that thread.
