Oil Change Calendar Limit

Post by ahramin »

Could anyone please tell me what Cessna says about calendar limits between oil changes on O-320 powered C-172s? Global warming is messing with my schedule.

The 172P (O 320 D2J) POH says to change the oil and filter every 100 hours or 6 Months, whichever comes first. (page 8-11)

My little Grumman AA1B flies 50 to 60 hours a year and I change the oil around the 25 hour mark + - which generally works out to an oil change at the annual and another at the mid year point.

100 hours in service ,would seem excessive for an oil change time. Most maintenance folks say 25 hours if it has no full flow oil filter (yes there are planes without still) or 50 if it has a filter. A 172 flying every day in a school "could" go 100 hrs if the engine has minimal blow by and things were "tight". 6 month calendar seems ok but there are other things you should be doing if you dont fly at all for 6 months.
