Scott 3200 Tailwheel

Post by ahramin »

Any Scott Tailwheel experts here? Just doing some other maintenance and I noticed that the steering pulls left but not right. Took it apart and sure enough the spring is slipping out of the groove in the arm assembly even with the wheel and pawl straight back. So either the spring is worn out or the arm assembly is worn out or both. $345 for a new arm assembly from Aircraft Spruce. I bent the spring out as much as possible and put it back together again. It's much better but I can still get it to slip but that might be because it isn't compressed together so maybe when it's bolted to the plane it will be ok. Is this a common problem for the arm assembly to wear out and need replacement? Or should I start by replacing the spring and see if that fixes it? Any experience or opinions appreciated.
