Working on the North end of Vancouver Island

Post by wrenchingirl »

Hi, I will be moving to the North end of vancouver island, I was hoping to get some work as an apprentice. The only shop in the area that I have been able to find is West Coast helicopters in Port McNeil. Does anyone know a little more about this company, as far as their shop goes. IE: how many people work there, if they are busy and if there is any chance they might need an apprentice. Also, is there any other shops in the area (Port Hardy, Coal Harbour etc)

Thank you in advance for any information!

Have not heard very much about them, but what I have heard from a few friends that worked there they run a fairly good show. Nice machines to work on and fly in..................................rotorhead350

Also look up Vancouver island helicopters (VIH). Used to fly a lot with that company and knew the owner quite well.

Thanks guys for the information.

Eagle air does have its own AMO so I will definately drop by there.

Vancouver Island air does have its own AMO but Its main base is in Cambell river about three hours away. Am I wrong to assume that the maintenance facilities would be there?

I guess it couldnt hurt to also check out all the air services in the area.

Phillyfan, i cant wait to hook up with you! I heard you could do wonders with your three incher!! :P

VIA does have it's own maintenance in C.R. and they have been looking for a new wrench with DHC-2 experience. Stop in at Sealand while you're in the area, they recently expanded and may be looking as well, they're now located up at the airport...not exactly north island though.

If you're not stuck with staying on the north end of the island, you might try Pavel Novak. He left NA3 to move to Naniamo to re-establish an AMO operation there. He's a good guy to work for. Tell him, Jim with the Stinson in Barrie sent you.

Thanks for the information guys! I am comitted to working on the North end, since I am going there to spend some time with my husband (Phillyfan) We've spent 26 of the last 48 months living in different towns from each other and it's time to try out this radical idea of living together for 12 months in row!!! But I will definately keep all this information in mind, since my husband will probably move again. (AND again....)

Once again, thank you everyone for all your tips.

I have a friend who works for Prism helicopters, and I do believe they have a base in Port McNiel. Unless that changed in the last year since I last talked to him.
