Broken Carb

Post by ahramin »

So after a nice flight to Boeing Field, I shut down and there's a steady stream of fuel dripping out of the cowl. Pull the cowl and it's coming from inside of the carb. Pull the airbox and out falls the idle nozzle, it broke off and was laying on the carb heat valve. No mechanics here on a Sunday.

Anyone have a guess at whether a local mechanic is going to be able to find a new idle nozzle, get the piece of the old one out of the carb, and install the new one, or is the carb going to have to be sent to a shop somewhere? Marvel carb on an O320.

Last Marvel carb I looked in had a main jet, but the idle jet was just a hole in the wall of the throat, just above the throttle butterfly. Can you post a picture of the loose part?

I’m fairly sure setting up a carb is specialist work, I had to take mine to an AMO to get it checked over.

Doesn’t a dripping carb suggests a problem with the float valve?

Good call Photofly. I abandoned the plane to do some touristing (I'm down here so my wife can go shopping, don't want a broken plane to wreck that plan) so I can't take a picture but it's a small brass tube coming from the bottom of the throat and delivering fuel in the venturi. I think it's the accellerator pump nozzle.

Get yourself a refurbed carb and any mechanic can fit it.
