EASA B1 to AME licence

Post by Asunaru »

hello there!
here's my problem :
- i want to go live in canada and work there.
- i've study and obtain exams in france in 2001.
- after 11 years of work as aircraft mechanic, i've obtain EASA B1 licence and A330 and A340 type licence, in 2012
- now, after 6 years more, i'll want work in canada.

but, to do that, i need a AME licence. so, it is possible to convert EASA licence to AME licence or i need to follow the complete AME licence course?
i mean, if i follow the course, i need :

-Be at least 21 years of age
ok easy one!

-Complete a Transport Canada-approved AME basic training program (or one that is acceptable to Transport Canada)
maybe using my french certificats?

-Get the total amount of applicable civil aviation maintenance experience
i think that can be easy because of my 17 years of experience. but did i need to fill a book or something?

-Gain skills by doing a number of specific maintenance tasks
i work during 17 years on A330 and A340 C checks, so no problem. the problem is the form. how do that?

-Successfully complete the technical (if required) and regulatory exams
same as training, maybe using french certificats

-Submit an application with the correct form and all other required documentation
not hard one too.

did you have somes sugestions or ideas?
thanks!

At the bottom of the page for obtaining an aircraft maintenance engineer (AME) license you will see one line that says
If you did not receive your basic training from an approved training organization, use the AME Licence Application Supplement form 26-0638.
Click on the blue hyperlink and that will take you to the form you're required to complete.

Good luck.

Thanks for the reply.
I've already study this link.

This is the general information page for obtaining a Canadian AME License. You may need to call an office.

https://www.tc.gc.ca/en/services/aviati ... ation.html

Applicants who did not complete their basic training from an approved or acceptable source may be exempt from the basic training requirement. To be eligible for these exemptions applicants must provide proof of having held the licence in question:

Aircraft Maintenance: (M1 or M2 rating) (issued prior to January 01, 1990)
United States - FAA A&P licence with an Inspection Authorization rating;
ICAO (Annex 1), rated for airframe & engines
Avionics Maintenance: (E rating) (issued prior to September 01, 1985)
ICAO (Annex 1), that included avionics privileges
Structures Maintenance: (S rating) (issued prior to September 01, 2001)
ICAO (Annex 1), that included structures privileges

All other maintenance licenses are not eligible for exemption and applicants are required to provide proof of basic training in accordance with subsection 566.07(2) of the AWM:

A course graduation certificate or diploma, a transcript of marks and hours of each subject and a detailed course curriculum from the training facility (this includes foreign basic training courses that will be required to be assessed on a case by case basis).

Applicants living outside of Canada who took a foreign basic training course will be required to provide documentation as noted above establishing how they meet the basic training requirements of AWM Chapter 566.
