foreign logbook for AME license ??

Post by thomasha »

Hi everybody

Would TC accept my foreign logbook for AME application? Because I have completed over 70% tasks required in my country.
I sent TC email to ask about this but they didn't answer specifically, they just said that I should read on their website  .

My info:
- 7-year experience in Aivation
- Finish ICS course of Aircraft Mechanic (TC accepts it)

Thank you

Can't answer whether TC will accept a foreign logbook, but even if they did, your biggest hurdle really is the TC written exams.

There are 3 components to a license:
1) basic training
2) knowledge - by taking the TC exams
3) experience

If you attend a fully-approved college program (not ICS), you get #1 and #2 (you write 1 exam instead of several exams), and you work on 3) experience.

ICS does not give you #2, only #1, so you have to do #2 yourself, meaning you have to write several TC exams and I hear they're difficult. Then the issue of #3 whether TC will accept your experience, which I'm sorry I don't know the answer to.

Best way is to submit a formal application and get their decision.

Talk to Transport Canada.

A logbook needs to be signed by a Canadian appropriately endorsed AME.

Are you licensed in your own country? It is much easier to transfer a license than bits and pieces of experience and training. They usually account for nothing here.

Yes, I was a Licensed aircraft mechanic in my country, my logbook has been signed by my own country licensed engineer, not Canadian AME.
TC requires a logbook, and they accepted my experience in my country
But they didn't say clearly that they will accept the logbook signed by the licensed mechanic in my country

You need to talk directly to TC. Don't go to a smaller office. Talk to Toronto or Vancouver. Somewhere that has a lot of experience with foreign log books. Make them give you a direct answer. If they aren't happy with your log book then ask why.
