Engineering layoffs

We've been hearing lots about flight crew layoffs....but how about engineers?

I only know of Air Transat, Sunwing, and Pasco so far

Wouldn't this be a good time to get all those C, Heavy checks done...without losing revenue, or do you have to wait until they are actually due?

Of course there will be layoffs, just not as quickly and not as many.

Good engineers are hard to find, they won't be dumped. Dead weight first, then real decisions need to be made.

There has been a real shortage before this, it might catch up now.

This is the same thing that happens every time there is a down turn. Maintenance that is due or needed is put on hold as the uncertainty continues. We all know the machines we look after need extra care and now is the time that work can be accomplished. Guys will sit at home, become more bitter at the lack of foresight in the industry and guys will move on to other areas of work. When things pick up again, the shortage will be worse, the machines will be neglected further and the race to the bottom will start all over again.

A lot of Airlines will park the aircraft and defer heavy checks not due to lack of foresight but due to survival. With the uncertainty in the industry they will be trying to reduce cash flow anyway possible.

You would think that this could be an opportunity to play catch up or get ahead on maintenance, the problem is the cash flow to pay for it has evaporated. Companies are going into full survival mode, and likely many will not. This has to be the worst nightmare scenario for the travel industry.

Air Transat in YYZ lost over 100 people. 21 remain with 1 manager. That is all trades. Supposedly the same number remaining in YUL. Letters went out Friday.
