Quick drain oil valve

Post by tazin river »

You guys know of a special method to drain the oil out of a continental engine on a Cessna 180 Without removing the cowling and not make a mess? It has a quick drain valve.

I am not familiar with your particular configuration, but on my Cherokee I was able to make an adapter that locked onto my quick release with a long tube to drain into a bucket.

Mine has a 1/4 turn quick drain valve on it. A piece of 3/8" clear plastic tubing fits on it slightly snug. When the engine is hot, it slips over easier and sort of seals itself on. I wear a pair of gloves and just reach in next to the exhaust and slip it on. 9/10 times I get it connected without making a mess.
Princess Auto sells a 10' roll really cheap. I don't even bother saving it for the next oil change to ensure it stays clean to pull the oil sample.
