hey guys i was wondering if anyone could help me out with a few questions?
is the breaking strength of a stainless steel cable equal to or greater than the equivalent size of a galvanized cable, or significantly greater?
and should studs be prevented from backing out of castings by means of self locking nuts or or turnbuckles....or neither?

The opposite applies. The galvanized is only slightly higher rated. From an aircraft spruce catalogue:
1/8" 7X19 stainless 1760 lbs. breaking strength
1/8" 7X19 galvanized 2000 lbs. breaking strength
The second question I don't quite understand what you mean. If you are talking about retaining a stud like an engine stud. Threadlocker compounds are usually used on the casting side. And self-locking nuts on the exposed side. A turnbuckle is used on a length of cable, and is always lockwired. Maybe if you were more specific...
