I did my A&P with them back in 2008, in their old facilities.

Apparently they moved to Islip airport which is where they would have you do your practical. They run a flightschool too I believe so they put everything at the same place. The people there knew their stuff : They dont pretend to teach you how to be an AME.... they hope you have that part already figured out; what they do is make sure you get what you need to pass all the exams... you do the written by yourself, and they will do a few practice orals and they will cover what will probably be asked in the practical. ( like soldering, for example... had not done that in a few years...)
if you have worked already as an ACA at a place where you actually need to think by yourself at times (small AMO and the likes) you should be going through fairly easily.

They are pretty cool guys to deal with. If you give them a call they will tell you all that you will need.... the most important being an aplication for the A&P examinations approved by an FSDO (FAA office), or else they won't sign you up (they don't want you coming down for nothing)
Everythnig else is just details.

Any other guys who could share their experience. Things to avoid and things to know. Specially on oral and practical, our mind suddenly just go blank in this kind of circumstances.

THanks for both Challenger's for the reply.

Was there in December. The system American Airman uses to get you through the written exams works very well. Make sure you know the study material they give you before the oral/practical. Your practical is all on little stuff, like R44's, so know your way around small aircraft. Don't argue with the DME and be humble and respectful....that will help. Always use the manuals.

Myself and the other guy I did it with found it quite easy.

Good luck,

Thanks Ballsss...

Nice! The first aircraft I touch is an R44 (miss the bugger). Had 1 1/2 year experience on it doing 50/100/500 Hr. Inspection.

I also did my A&P at American Airmen. They cram/bombard the info into you. They have a good computer program, that gives you practice questions. When you finish these tests consistently well, you get to do the actual FAA exams. As I recall, the guy that does the practical exams, is a hard-ass, he has a built in bull shit detector so don't even try. If you can't/don't know an answer to one of his questions during the oral exam, just say so. During the practical exam, one of the things he gives you is a banged up (read - destroyed) ELT to inspect. I found about 20 things wrong with it, he only wanted about 5. If you go, the R22 that you work on was crashed - When you get the AD/log book entry, make sure it is applicable as per serial number. I got my A&P, but he had me stressed out about the exams - I over inspected stuff as I didn't want to miss anything and fail. It made me take way to long to complete tasks.

I'm not sure what letter you'll need to apply for your licence, as our QA guy took care of it at our company.

Just wondering if any of you guys/gals have the recent ASA Prepware test books, preferably 2010. Those who just took the exam and don't need the books, maybe I could get it for a cheaper price. I bought a 2008, I guess not much has change since then. PM me. thanks again!
