Hi,
Does someone have the schematic of a portable PTT switch (the type that you velcro on the yoke)?
My no-name PTT switch would not work in a Cessna 150 this morning, well I didn't try to transmit, but the intercom would not work when the PTT switch was connected between the panel and my headset. It was the first time I was trying to use it in 10 years.
I would like to check my PTT switch to determine if it is working correctly or not.
I could just try it in another aircraft, but I am home now and would like to check it with an ohmmeter.
Thanks

Portable PTT switch schematic?
Totally irresponsible, unnecessary, dangerous, immature and reprehensible. In other words brillant!
Re: Portable PTT switch schematic?
On your mic plug there are three connection, the bottom "tip" is for the mic "key", the second "ring" is the mic Audio, and the third "ring" is the ground or earth if your from the east side of the pond.
What you need to do is bridge the switch in your PTT switch (there is actually 2 switches inside it) that is interupting the mic audio and ground wire. All you need for a PTT is to connect the "tip" to the gound.. FYI most headset have the "key" wire all the way up to the earphone, so if youre crafty, you can install a momentary PTT inside your headset!
Let me know if you dont follow me and I can draw up a schematic.

I am following you. I opened the switch back cover and drew a schematic of my PTT switch and it is exactly as you described.
My conclusion is that all those "dual pole" PTT switch are all incompatible with any intercom. Do you know why they design these portable PTT switch like this?
Now I remember that I used to use my PTT switch in aircrafts that had 3 jacks (headset - mic - PTT) and yesterday was the first time I ever plugged my headset's mic into the PTT switch female jack.
I will add a jumper to keep the mic line always connected, or I could had a switch instead if I ever need the "dual pole" feature.
Adding a PTT switch "into" the headset is a wonderful idea.
I am in Canada btw
Thanks for your help,
