Mastercraft Maximum Ratcheting Screwdriver Set

Post by niss »

I picked this up last night and it looks pretty good. It's not the snap on screwdriver but this is on sale now for $29.99 from $75.00 and I had 10% off plus $15.00 in Canadian tire $$.

How could I not?

Is there anything more dangerous to an a/c than a pilot with a screwdriver?

There are things more dangerous than pilot accessible screwdrivers, but not many more annoying.
I worked for a company once who actually removed them just over week after placing them in the cockpit. One captain was witnessed stepping out of the airplane waving a freshly removed tcas. Apparently he figured out why it wasn't working enroute. No shit, true story.

Anyway, that is a great deal on the driver kit. I need one for home use so Im going to get one.

That's not as ridiculous as it sounds. I know of pilots who carry an extra transponder on board so that when ATC gives them sh1t about it not working, they slide the old one out and the spare one in.

I think it's legal. But a bit weird.

Barrie is a full shopping experience......Isn't it?

And! Still expanding......

Why in the old days we'd hitch up ole' Bessie to the wagon and go the Costco emporium... Now that was a fun sunday!

Any inside news on the McDonalds on the highway? You know the one closed for renovations......

I could see that being annoying to an AME, but I've done much more than that up north. When oil's been in your airplane for 150 hours, you do what you have to do yourself.

Reminds me of the pilot, decades ago, that crashed up north. No ELTs back then. He was screwed.

So, using the aircraft battery and wire, he rigged up a spark gap transmitter and antenna, and in morse code transmitted SOS and his aircraft ident and his lat and long over and over again.

He was rescued the next day when an aircraft flew in to pick him up.

Now, he probably didn't have a copy of AC43-13 or even a complete set of CAR 5xx regulations to tell him how to do it in the approved manner, but he did ok anyways

Mastercraft Maximum is absolutely not made by Gray....

That particular screwdriver is a re-badged Gearwrench model.

No matter. I was at the pawn shop last week and picked up a snap on ratcheting screw driver for $20. I'm still going to keep the MM one as all the accessories are great to have.

Its a known fact that gray fills its lineup with product from other vendors, but when I bought my tools from grays they said they forged alot of the steel products like wrenches for MasterCraft Maximum. Mind you that was 4 years ago so MC Maximum might have switched vendors. That being said I still own some MC Max and find them to be much better quality over their counterparts.

Well dude, they were lying to you about the Mastercraft Maximum connection.....I don't know what they would have to gain by saying these things actually.

Lots of Gray's stuff is re-branded vendor stuff (Snap On, Mac, etc all do this as well) but anything actually made "by Gray" is pretty much strictly Gray. Similar to Snap On, they pretty much do not make anything and put someone else's name on it.

Mastercraft Maximum wrenches, for example, are made by Stanley. They're pretty nice and all but they're no Gray. I believe the older Mastercraft Professional wrenches may have been, for a short period, made by someone of note but no one seems sure exactly sure and they weren't around that long. Maybe these are what that person was referring to.

I have plenty of that Maximum stuff and honestly I think most of it is pretty decent (except for the ratchets which I think are subpar), however, there is no connection anymore between Canadian Tire and Gray.

With regards to that screwdriver......I have one and I think it's decent. The only problem with it is when you really put some muscle into it the rear cap unscrews. It's a bit annoying but for the price it's a decent deal.

That set looks worth it just for the bits. I have the Snap-on equivalent handle and the stubby version as well... Broke down and bought them this year after lusting after ones friends have. Hands down, probably the best money spent on tools so far, they really are just that nice to use.
