I get it, you are trying to be cute...

I challenge you to make an insightful post on the subject, my guess is you can't. Doesn't matter which side you take on the subject, just pick one and run with it. All your posts show is you have zero passion. With the "yawn" statements you are insinuating you have something better to do, by all means please go do it. Forums are an avenue for people to express themselves, not sure what you are expressing here...maybe that you are lazy or don't care?...If you don't care then why open the thread, why post?

helicopters. Go with helicopters.

In the real world truth is many are currently hurting in that area, and it will get worse if oil/minerals don't turn around, and nobody's forecasting that to happen anytime soon.

Dig...dig...dig...

If you dig deep enough maybe you'll have a deep hole to put all the used pick-ups and toys that are for sale in Alberta that nobody can afford to keep...or buy.

You should see all the resumes I've seen lately from former AME's that left for that other industry you've been endorsing here PR and now need a job. A lot of them never even bothered to renew their licenses on time...

Yawn...that's an expression isn't it?

No yawning isn't an expression it is a biological reflex, thought someone of your "high intellect" would know the difference...but I guess in the Troll world it could be considered an expression.

The oil patch is just one avenue someone can take to a greener pasture, the pasture in aircraft maintenance is full of dog urine spots and dead grass. Sure there is still some green grass in aviation but the evidence shows it is dying when stacked against other popular trades.

Funny, you think everyone that works for good six-figures in Alberta has just pissed away all their money? My brother works out there and his house back home is paid off and he is 32 years old. He could come back and work as a high school janitor and be better off than an AME in BC right now.... so don't act like you know what is up old timer, you are outta touch and you continue to prove my point post after post. You know how many Aircraft maintenance Engineers M/E have applied to my company? Answer:Plenty...not to mention the several people on this very site that PM me about my profession. You think you know what is going on out there with your quick jabs but I can clearly see you are disconnected from the skilled labour workforce....you talk a big game but you simply have no idea what you are talking about...it is a common theme with you on this website (oil patch, 737 line maintenance, wages,etc...) you know it all don't you. pathetic.

You need a hard dose of reality. Better hope you don't fall on hard times with that smug attitude or yours because you'd find out real quick what kind of shape the aircraft maintenance industry is in right now. But hey, stay in your bubble I'm sure you'll be fine.

like everything else, an explanation is required for the genius.
the patch and helicopters - company's are capping any new exploration(helicopters) and new project construction. minerals are in the same boat, have been for a few years. If you're in a production related position in Alberta, with the right company(suncor comes to mind) you are probably still working. Aviationwise you probably are not.
other trades vs aviation - not sure which "one" trade I recommended, as I think most are a better choice than AME, but heres the thing. Workers, tradesmen or not, have enjoyed, at better wages etc, almost 15 YEARS of steady employment opportunities and wage progression. Aviation has been sporadic with wage regression. 15 years patch related work vs aviation. wonder which was/is the better choice..right, airplanes, lol. Patch will come back, but aviation will continue to chase people away. Just wait and see how many of those who return to aviation remain with it once the patch returns.

All they're looking for is something to hold them over.

Understand??

Do you think the current wages of a AME m1 at a flight school would be at least $25.00 with an ACA?

As I do not think it would be worth the responsibility any lower then this.

Would most here sign out an aircraft for lower then 25.00?

I am trying to judge what is the going rate.

The trouble with being the $25 flight school AME is that you’re far cheaper than the local plumber at that rate, even if you’re not quite as efficient as he or she may be at their trade. So, you better be able and prepared to fix the sink and unclog the toilet. When the plumber does come in, you’ll find who garners more respect.

I find the Flight school/AMO location plays a big part in what they offer for wages. If it is one of the few AME gigs in town then they will offer what ever they can get away with. $25/HR is definitely on the low side, responsibility aside it is just a low wage for any certified trades person. I don't know your current situation so if you need money to keep the lights on, or put food on the table I don't think there is any shame in taking a job until you can find something better.

If you are young, single and have very little tying you down to a certain town or province I would look around if I were you. But again I don't know what your situation is, but to answer your question $25/HR to release aircraft maintenance is bottom of the barrel garbage.

Mirabel,QC AMO I'm not going to say the name (Convair 580's, 737) Oooppps. ACA 31-32$/hr plus 4$/hr (I think now) for each type course plus 500week perdiem if away from base.

Refrigeration Mechanic union 49.80$/per hour Journeyman (Ticketed) + 5.60$/hr employer paid pension and employer paid health benefits IN TOWN. Your looking well north of 150k if your flyin-flyout or up north.
