Winter Float Rating
I have decided I want to get into float flying and looking for some advice. I have about 800TT with 150PIC however I do not have a float rating. I would like to get my float rating and a little time on floats next month so I can be ready for the spring hiring, however living in Ontario makes that impossible at the moment. Did a little research with no luck but are there any restrictions that would prevent me from going down to somewhere warm in the states and getting my float rating there. What would be the chances of landing a flying float job this spring with only 15 hours or so of float time.
Re: Winter Float Rating
I don't know anything about doing it in the states but you can do it in BC during the winter. Air Hart in Kelowna and Ocean Air in Victoria are good.

This guy is in Winter Haven, Florida. http://brownsseaplane.com/
There is a bit more paperwork involved with foreign students.

Low in the extreme, but keep your optimism! What would be the chances of landing a flying float job this spring with only 15 hours or so of float time.

I'll second that.Air Hart in Kelowna and Ocean Air in Victoria are good.
The hardest thing about flying is knowing when to say no
After over a half a century of flying no one ever died because of my decision not to fly.

I'll third what was said about Air-Hart and Ocean Air. I've had lots of friends do their training with Air-Hart in Kelowna, and they've only had good things to say. I personally did my training with David Budd who owns Ocean Air in Victoria, and all I can say is that he's a great pilot and I benefitted a lot doing my training there. Also, flying around the Gulf Islands is second to none.

Re: Winter Float Rating
I'll second Air Hart for a recommendation but they shut down mid December until beginning of April or so.

Women and planes have alot in common
Both are expensive, loud, and noisy.
However, when handled properly both respond well and provide great pleasure

Re: Winter Float Rating
Alternatively you should try to find somewhere that can show you how to land on lakes in the winter with those specialized skinny floats they use for landing on hard water.
We can't stop here! This is BAT country!
