Harder or easier (INRAT vs. the CPL written exam)

Post by clairvoyant »

Folks,
I passed the INRAT. It wasn't that bad.
Is the CPL written exam harder?
Any thought/comment/feedback/critics?

Thank you in advance.

They're both about the same difficulty. I did a lot better in the CPL, although that's just because I prepared much more (using Harv's Air's online ground school). If you know the stuff and do well in the practice exams, you'll find it fairly easy.

CPL definitely harder. INRAT was a breeze.

When you said harder, which parts/sections were harder?
Or more like, which parts/sections do I have to pay special attention?
I maybe strong in the navigation (VOR,ADF, etc.) and math (distance, speed, fuel consumption, etc.) but lousy on the theory.

CPL covers a very wide range of questions and topics.

With the INRAT it is a known category of topics.

The Commercial has a much broader scope to study. I think due to the fact that the Commercial has a General Section, and you typically have less experience when writing -- it makes the CPL more difficult.

So far, the CPL is the only exam I've ever failed, and it was only by one question. I've hated that exam ever since. *shakes fist*
Now I'm looking at the ATPL exams, wondering what they'll be like.

Exactly what I was about to write. I really worked hard for my CPL and used Harv's Air online GS. I actually failed my INRAT the first time, because I didn't put much effort into studying. I was working nigh shifts then and was always too exhausted to study properly. The 2nd time around I passed.

Does it make a difference?

Are you not going to do it if someone tells you it's "Hard"...

Study and ace it...

I found the CPL much harder because the scope of questions was very large whereas the INRAT, although a very detailed exam, is comprised of the theory in the AIM and the practical application of the CAP GEN over only 50 questions.

I did the Aerocourse IFR seminar and it was absolutely fantastic. For my ATPLs, I only used the Aerocourse Workbook and did fine without the groundschool. If you need the audio and visual cues of a classroom, do the Aercourse and book your INRAT within a week (ideally next day) of completing it.
