Algonquin College Aviation Program Help

Post by avcraig »

Hello all,

What are your opinions on the Algonquin College Aviation pilot program? I've heard good and bad things about it, so finally I decided to come to Avcanada to ask here. I am specifically interested in this college(for now) so please don't recommend Sault, Seneca etc. I've heard people say that this course prepares you for your PPL, CPL, Multi, IFR, etc however you will not write the actual exams with them and their flight training is not good. Is this true? I do know they have the Jazz Program but I also heard that people don't usually get accepted from Algonquin. Anybody here that attended the program and is currently in the airline industry or anybody that knows about it well, I would appreciate your help. The website for their college doesn't seem to be working for me right now.

Thanks all.

I know when I attended from 2008-2011 the training was 'OK' it was 100% geared toward pumping out airline puppies. If you wanted to do anything else in the industry ie. Bush or special mission I wouldn't say it's the #1 school for you. If airlines are your goal then by all means keep trucking at the OFC. Many of my friends from the Algonquin program are now at Jazz or Sky Regional so I don't know where this Jazz not hiring thing comes from. I know of at least 1 or 2 instructors from my time still there that I would recommend any day. Hope this helps

I would also like to hear from anyone with recent experience doing the Algonquin program.
I keep meeting many graduates of the other programs but none from the Algonquin.

I started there in 2011(starting to feel old). Not subsidized so it could be more expensive, but if you apply yourself to it you can get finished and working quick (might help evening out the $ not paying for living expenses while at school). In terms of jobs, I'm pretty sure everyone im still in remote contact with is a Jazz. I went a different route but at somewhere I feel id like more then Jazz. In my honest opinion if youre asking in terms of what employers want, they judge you as a person and the legal requirements which college doesn't matter. Its been 5-6 years since I graduated so things might have changes but its a good time, just don't spent too much time at the Casino across the river.
