group 1 instrument rating

Hello everyone,
I have a quick question in regards to the group 1 instrument rating.
I did my flight test sometime in August of 2017 (can't remember the exact day) and I know that within 6 months we need to do 6 approaches and whatnot to stay current.
that test was done while I was in flight training. Now I will be starting a job doing aerial surveying flying a 172 in which my Group 1 won't be used.
Should I stay current, just in case, or should I wait until I start looking for a job in which instrument flying is required?

From the time of your flight test or IPC, you are considered current for 1 year. After that, the 6, 6 in 6 rule applies. You will need to do an Instrument Proficiency Check 2 years after the time of your flight test, regardless of how often you've been flying IMC.
