Tecnam P2006 and Multi Training

Post by youhavecontrol »

In light of the accident report coming out of Calgary, I was curious how many schools in Canada use the Tecnam P2006T for flight training.

Our flight school was looking at options for upgrading our fleet of twins. The Tecnam looked great on paper, but then after browsing through accident reports, our CFI said he noticed a concerning amount of accidents caused by low speed stability characteristics. Can't remember what exactly he noticed.. if it was single engine stability or just stall characteristics he was concerned about.

The Calgary accident seemed to be a clear sign that "YES, you made a good choice not buying the Tecnam!" ..but then after reading about the unusual procedures they were following, I'm not so sure the aircraft itself is necessarily unsafe.

I was speaking to a class 1 instructor who trained in them, and I got the impression that they had a lot of dispatch reliability issues. I would certainly recommend talking to a school who has used them before making any decisions. PM me if you want contact info.

Thanks for the reply, and thanks for the contact offer. Our CFI did contact some owners, and they've already decided 'No' on the Tecnam. I'm mostly a bit curious for myself now, as I've started teaching on the twin for a few months now and when looking at our fleet of Seminoles, wondered if there actually was a better trainer out there overall. I'm curious, but not curious enough to write an email to another flight school. I'll just hide-out here on the forums, haha

From what I can see, the Seminole seems to be the safest twin. Although they seem to be like gold dust on the used market right now.
