Class E low level airway visibility

Post by rotorspeed »

One of the pilotexams software questions is, what is min visibility in class E low level airway. Answer was 3 mi. I thought only control zones had 3 million rule

Class E low level airways are for IFR traffic. They don't apply to VFR, in which case during VMC they are Class G.

Airways are still Class E at or above 2200 AGL, so the 3 mile visibility requirement still exists for VFR traffic. There's nothing that says VFR traffic can't be using an airway.

    AIM GEN 2.8.

....and (put another way) while class E isn't in a control zone, it's still controlled airspace, so 3 SM applies.

Yes. There is no requirement for VFR aircraft to contact ATC in Class E airspace.
