Minima's
Hi
What do they mean when they refer to 600-2? There are more but can not remember them off hand.
Is the 600 a height? Is the 2 in reference to Minimum Visibility Aeroplane Table?
Help pls. I am reading the CAPs now but still not 100% sure.

600 is the forecast ceiling, 2 is the forecast visibility. So if there is 1 usable precision approach, you must have a TAF showing at least 600ft and 2 miles to use the airport as an alternate.
Re: Minima's
To expand on A346’s very detailed answer, we must note that it also depends on the language of the TAF. If BCMG is used... it must be based on the weather before the period until the end of the period if it’s an improvement, or the weather after BCMG at the time it starts to change if it’s deteriorating. The worst weather in TEMPO must also be observed.
In the case of a PROB... weather can be below alternate minima but not landing minima.
Also remember that this is for planning purposes. Once you’re in the air, any approach is fine unless you’re approach banned... but airmanship dictates that you should always have a backup plan.
Unlike hold entries and NDB tracking and interpreting a LO chart, you will use these everyday when flying IFR.

Read through the CAP GEN section on approach minimas. It actually explains it pretty decently. Also, you can read through the minima section in the AIM (TC AIM RAC 9.18): https://www.tc.gc.ca/media/documents/ca ... ACCESS.pdf

One usable approach = 600-2 OR 300-1 above lowest usable HAT and vis, whichever is greater.

I guess you have to check the airport NOTAM that at least one usable approach available during the ETA.

Re: Minima's
It would also mean that you couldn't take credit for an approach that is forecast to be out of tailwind limitations for your A/C as well.clairvoyant wrote: ↑Mon Oct 29, 2018 11:49 amI guess you have to check the airport NOTAM that at least one usable approach available during the ETA.
