Good time to quit training?
The whole virus scare looks like it's just pooped the bubble, do the people here suggest anyone about to start or who doesn't have much invested should quit due to the bleak future?

Re: Good time to quit training?
both spellings work
Re: Good time to quit training?
Just be prepared it might take a few years again to find that first job. Minimize debt to pay for flight training. Work while flying.
As an AvCanada discussion grows longer:
-the probability of 'entitlement' being mentioned, approaches 1
-one will be accused of using bad airmanship

Remember you only need ONE job. Never stop moving.

Re: Good time to quit training?
This is still a rapidly changing situation - how long this will go on for is guesswork at this point.
If you can keep your licence current after completing your training you will be ready to start when a job becomes available. You won't get a job without a Licence.
I remember a time when you needed 6000+ hours to fly a Navajo.
In 35 years of Commercial flying I have always had a job when I needed one.
I started at the bottom and worked my way up.

Always fly a stable approach - it's the only stability you'll find in this business
Re: Good time to quit training?
If a potential dip in hiring is making you ask that question then you don’t really want to fly anyway. So yes, you should quit training.
Re: Good time to quit training?
Everyone is saying this is a 9/11 impact event?
Re: Good time to quit training?
Do you want to fly? Then fly. If you’re doing it for the riches and supermodels pursuing you, I’ve already taken them.
There will be a span of years between starting flight training and getting into the big leagues (if that’s your goal) and sometime in there things can either get better or worse for reasons nobody can predict. One could argue that with pilot duty regs and general retirements happening no matter what, and others in training getting cold feet and dropping out, now is the perfect time to start.

Here? Or, not everyone?Everyone is saying this is a 9/11 impact event?
You either want to fly, or you don't want to fly, you don't need to ask the group here what you want to do...

Economic cycles come and go, contrary to common belief.
In a word, grow some backbone and persistence.

I'm asking is it financially responsible at this point? The airlines lag behind the cycles, and those can take a decade to recoverrookiepilot wrote: ↑Tue Mar 10, 2020 3:27 pm Economic cycles come and go, contrary to common belief.

I'd like to but people like "Mentour Pilot" who to me has a lot more credit than people on AV Canada said it's a 9/11 level impact

I don't think anyone can answer that for you, specificallyvermont wrote: ↑Tue Mar 10, 2020 3:37 pmI'm asking is it financially responsible at this point? Vermont: you make reference to a "bleak future"...
I presume you mean in aviation. From whence do you gather that?

Re: Good time to quit training?
Er..."whence" means "from where".
DId you hear the one about the jurisprudence fetishist? He got off on a technicality.
Re: Good time to quit training?
The point people are trying to make is, if you want to fly you’ll find a way to make it happen. Plenty of people were still going to flight school after 9/11, many of them stuck with it and made a great career for themselves eventually. If you are second guessing your decision because of recent events, it likely means that you don’t want it bad enough to put up with the conditions a potential downturn would bring.

I don't understand; You have a "Mentour Pilot", whom you take to be more credible than the group here? Okay, but then why ask here if we are not credible?I'd like to but people like "Mentour Pilot" who to me has a lot more credit than people on AV Canada said it's a 9/11 level impact

Don't you know that having a YouTube channel equates instant credibility?PilotDAR wrote: ↑Tue Mar 10, 2020 7:17 pmI don't understand; You have a "Mentour Pilot", whom you take to be more credible than the group here?
