IATRA/ATPL question....a new one I think.
Hi all.
I have a CPL and I'm just shy of having the hourly requirements to get the ATPL license.
So, ....I want to fly two crew stuff so rather than writing the IATRA, I went ahead and wrote both the SAMRA and SARON thinking I'd be doing one better.
However, the current CAR's say I should have written the IATRA, but the previous CAR's say either the IATRA or the ATPL exams will do. Why they changed it I don't know and neither did the nice lady at Transport...she supose to get back to me.
Will I have to also write the IATRA now after writting the ATPL exams? Seems silly to me...but then again, I should have looked into this better first
Thanks guys/gals,
Matt.

Matthew,
After reading the associated CAR (421.40) below; The simple solution is to get your ATPL.
Once that's done, as long as you've done the SAMRA/SARON within the last 24 months, which is likely the case, you can apply for the Type Rating; providing you met all the other requirements as mentionned.
The other option is as a CPL holder is to head in an write the IATRA at a cost of 35$.
At least that's the way I read it and understang it.

Re: IATRA/ATPL question....a new one I think.
The way I read it that if you've written the ATPL's you're good to go under (B). Doesn't say there that you need to have all the requirements just have them written within the last 24 months. (C) says if you have the ATPL license you're also good to go.
So I think it means if you don't have the A's but have done the written your good. (B)

Re: IATRA/ATPL question....a new one I think.
You're right! under part (B). It's in the wording.
For PPL and CPL (part A) it says 'in the case of the holder'
For ATPL (Part B) it says 'in the case of the applicant'
Cheers, Matt

They should change the "Airline Transport Pilot Licence - Aeroplane" header from being above (B) to above (C) for clarity.
