Weight Shift Formula

Post by tkdowell »

Hello all,

I understand how to use the following formula (in the three variations -> removal of weight, addition of weight and shift in position of weight) but I am trying to figure out how 'they' derived it to begin with:

w/W = d/D

It must be a simple process of cross-multiplying but I have been quite unsuccessful as of yet.

If anyone has a link or a decent explanation, that would be greatly appreciated. Further elaboration on how to use the formula can be provided if requested.

I think it's weight to be moved/aircraft weight=distance to move cg/ac arm. Math is easy from there- good luck.

I couldn't make the equations post all that well so I attached a file with the derivation.

Excellent, much appreciated. I did not think to take that approach.

The use of the formulas are quite simple, but deriving them quite a bit tougher (for me anyways!). I derived the other two variations as well, on paper. I'll post those tommorow when I clean it up a bit for any other curius people with nothing better to do with their time :P

Cheers.
