Neat Overhead Break

Post by Colonel Sanders »

Walking down the street, I see four F-18's fly by
in a nice diamond formation, which is a little unusual.

Normally they would be arranged in a right echelon
for a left break for landing. But not today.

#3 (left wing) broke first, then #4 (slot), then
#1 (lead), then #2 (right wing).

How cool - breaking out of a diamond formation.
Usually that's only "Blue Angels" stuff.

Sorry about no eye candy.

Left wing #3 "broke first" ... and #4 follows it to the left ?

Which way / where did #1 go ?

All aircraft always break the same direction - in
this case, left (normal).

Though from a diamond, you could break
right, in this order: 2, 4, 1, 3 which would
be weird, unless the diamond was arranged
in finger left, in which case it would be 3, 4
1, 2 again, which is more natural. Kind of.
