Hello,
I'm looking to do a group 1 IFR renewal. I'm currently in YRL and looking for a reasonably priced renewal within a reasonable distance from YRL. I'm guessing my best bets are YWG or YQT. I've been trying to get a hold of some one at Confederation college to see if they even do group 1 renewals but with no luck.
Any information would be appreciated.

I would say YQT is not likely to have anything for you. Maybe you could get in the Sim at Confederation but not likely. Brampton has the redbird i think advertised at $700 for IFR renewals. YWG or the GTA will both have something for you.

SMELS, the Brampton Flight Centres ad (905-838-1400) is in the top right hand corner of the this AvCanada page and says the IFR renewal is $599. Other than that, Harvs air in St Andrews airport has a nice Redbird which do IFR renewals, but I am not sure about the cost. Call them (204) 339 6186 or look at the page:

http://harvsair.com/courses/renew-your-instrument-rating-on-a-flight-simulator/

You may want to give Perimeter in YWG a call also at 1-204-783-6845, which is the Flight Training Dept. Not sure about the price but could imagine it can be high.

I think there is also a Transport Canada approved flight test examiner in Red Lake who works at a specific airline, but I'm not sure if that individual does in-house IFR PPC ONLY or if he does exceptions to IFR renewals, assuming he is familiar with the intended aircraft to do the renewal.

Other than that, here are some other flight schools you could call to see if they do them and for how much:

Thunder Bay, Nor'Western Flying Club (807) 629-9626
Trying Confederation couldn't hurt. Since your in YRL, I am going to assume you moved there from elsewhere in Canada, so you could go back to your local home airport and do it back there and make a trip home out of it also.

Southern Ontario may be too far. I'll probably just go back to Sault college to do it. However I'll give Nor' Western a call and even though I'm pretty sure they can't I'm sure they could point me in the right direction at Confed. Going back "home" isn't an option either as home is pretty much halfway between YRL and YQT.
Thanks.
