Re: Air Canada Interviews
Sheesh... calme, calme....
First off, congrats on those going on course. If AC is a step up from wherever you're slogging it out, you'll have a great time here. Don't let negativity shadow your enthusiasm... an eager face in the ranks is always welcome. Congrats!
BUT....
A word to the wise.... There are a lot of people here who are making financial and quality-of-life sacrifices to try and improve the "great situation" for new hires that you think you're coming to. It's clear from your posts that you are very uninformed about everything that has gone into this contract, which is understandable, because you're probably seeing it all from the outside. All I'm saying is that from somebody who is giving up overtime and personal time to try to fight for a better deal for you, I respectfully suggest you don't come in the doors here and trumpet the "get over it" tune amongst us. The group here has sacrificed more than you can possibly understand for people they've haven't even met yet. Your dependance on our sacrifice will not end with this contract, and our apathy (or worse, blinding acceptance of what you think is the new reality) is your worst enemy.
I say this with respect, because the people on course after you are going to rely on your position inside the gates to ensure that they come to something even better than what you're going to get. It's about paying it forward, not sitting on our laurels talking about how good we have it while the next generation gets less. When the process fails, and the next generation gets screwed, I think it's a failure of that system. All you're being told is "fair warning, this isn't going to be the same company you applied to". That's all.
In any case, welcome! Hope to see you over a beer somewhere fun in the coming months!

Re: Air Canada Interviews
Sea2sky, I respect and appreciate your opinion. I agree it is up to the current generation to ensure a great job for the next generation of AC pilots. From the 'next' generation: thank you for your efforts. They may seem in vain at times, but rest assured; AC is still a great opportunity for many of us. Under the new CA, everything is better than my current job. And I have several close friends at AC offering me the 'inside' perspective as well, including on the new CA. And those friends include 777 and 767 captains.
winginit & tailgunner, thanks for the encouragment! Us new hires may be feeling slight trepidation about some of the language in the new CA, but all in all we're excited to join! See you other new hires in Sept!

Re: Air Canada Interviews
For the people that got hired recently, how long did it take AC to call you back to let you know you were hired?
Thanks
Thanks
Re: Air Canada Interviews
Well I interviewed late June and have not heard anything back yet. They told me to email them if I hadn't heard anything in over 6 weeks to contact them. I did over a week ago and still have not heard back from them. I am not very impressed.lowlevel wrote:For the people that got hired recently, how long did it take AC to call you back to let you know you were hired?

My guess is they probably sent out the first round of job offers and are waiting to see if anyone fails the medical or sim eval, declines the offer, or drops out of GS etc. Then in that case they will contact you to see if you're still interested. All you can do it keep your fingers crossed and wait. Good luck!
Re: Air Canada Interviews
Thank I appreciate the reply. But to be honest AC was my backup plan if something else didn't work out, but it did so its just more of a curiosity thing for me now.cj555 wrote:Lateralus wrote: Well I interviewed late June and have not heard anything back yet. AC pilot recruitment doesn't offer a start date until the entire recruitment process is complete; interview, psych eval, cog test, medical, reference check. They don't do sim evals. A pool of candidates has been created, if candidate declines a course date, the offer is made to another candidate.
With respect to pilots not showing up to their course. A few weeks/months ago Jennifer S, the (well respected) Manager of Pilot Recruitment posted on this forum that there had been no 'no shows' in ground schools at that date. Pilots have opted for later courses than the first one offered to them and no doubt pilots have declined position all together, but burning a bridge (and not showing up after accepting an offer) to make some sort of statement, is pretty foolish in this industry. But heh, if a guy you know said it happened three times in the last month alone…who am I to say it didn't?
Lateralus, Glad to hear Plan A worked out for you.

Thanks Stig.........I have to admit AC was always the dream, but after 5 years at QK the Kool-aid is refreshing. Best of luck to everyone.

Re: Air Canada Interviews
You mean the single post by someone on an anonymous forum who hasn't returned since that post? Either you were suckered in by a troll or the questions got too pointed to stick around.A few weeks/months ago Jennifer S, the (well respected) Manager of Pilot Recruitment posted on this forum that there had been no 'no shows' in ground schools at that date.
Re: Air Canada Interviews
That says it all doesn't. AC is a 'backup plan' and no longer the first choice for many pilots.Lateralus wrote:cj555 wrote:Lateralus wrote: But to be honest AC was my backup plan if something else didn't work out, but it did so its just more of a curiosity thing for me now.
Re: Air Canada Interviews
With the recent arbitration opening the door for AC to move toward a low cost carrier structure by outsourcing of part of the AC mainline fleet (ie EMJ), I have heard speculation that AC Mainline may not be hiring for awhile.
I am interested to hear if you guys think that is true, and what impact will outsourcing have on job prospects?
Lately I've heard alot of people say great things about the working conditions and pay at low cost operators such as Jazz/Air Georgian. If the AC is moving toward a structure of outsourcing many of its regional routes to smaller operators, perhaps this will open up more opportunities for low time pilots, and provide better working conditions then currently seen at the mainline?
I've heard the term "race to the bottom" to describe this many times. But if that is the case, why are so many people saying (for example) that the contract and working conditions at Jazz (aka the bottom) are better then the mainline? I am not for or against either of these options, just interested to hear people's opinions on the subject.

Re: Air Canada Interviews
I'm trying to fein indifference.... but has anyone who interviewed this August received a phone call for a medical yet?
Re: Air Canada Interviews
Just got invited to the interview in September. Nervous as hell. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Re: Air Canada Interviews
Congrats. Dress smart, get a good night's sleep. Have examples to the typical behavioral questions. You can google "Air Canada Interview Gouge" but try not to rehearse the answers. Be yourself. Oh and play some memory games for the cog test.atpilot wrote:Just got invited to the interview in September. Nervous as hell. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Air Canada Interviews
Just wondering how much of an understanding of the new working conditions those applying or in the interview process at Air Canada have at this time?
Re: Air Canada Interviews

Why?? more info please

Re: Air Canada Interviews
As far as I can see there is no Oct GS, but there is a Nov GS. Give it a few hours and the next bid should be out giving more information.
