Probably a wise idea. With Transat and AC combining forces and WestJet getting a cash injection Sunwing is going to be facing stiff competition.

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread
I reapplied for the most recent job posting, and the final page said that I would receive an email confirming my application. This email has never been received. Has anyone had a similar experience?
Re: The Air Canada OTS thread
Quite the experience level in the last ground school, it’s like we’ve got a Westjet/Encore PIL agreement.
Seeing a few expat coming back home as well.

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread
When Transat pilots say they are entitled to X seniority number due to previous industry experience I hope they, and the arbitrator, are reminded some of our recent new hires are 777 Captains.
Re: The Air Canada OTS thread
Dry Guy, Transat pilots know how the seniority system works. There is no need to remind them anything; we are not in a schoolyard.
The 777 Captains made a decision to go to AC for personal reasons knowing exactly what they would get from AC. They were willing to give up what they had to start again at the bottom of the list and they were prepared to that new lifestyle (I honestly respect them because the system you so lovely defend is an insult to our profession, you shouldn’t be proud of that).
However I’m guessing that they consider the job at AC as a pre-retirement hobby, they already made the money abroad. I’ve talked to one of the senior Captains who left Sunwing to AC and this is exactly what he said. The 4 years flat pay is just extra peanuts that he does not really need, but the guy wanted to try the widebody flying for fun; nothing more. So please don’t use these experienced guys as an excuse to belittle your probable future colleagues from Transat who never requested your Management to be bought; we all know and understand that we won’t be welcomed with open arms, unfortunately for us.
Transat pilots didn’t make that decision, it’s been imposed. Nobody is saying that we are entitled anything at AC; we just hope that this merger (if it happens) will be fair for us as it’s not our decision and we were not prepared to that new lifestyle that will affect many people/families; not necessarily positively as you absolutely want to believe.
It’s sad some of you here don’t open your mind and see -as your Management does- the positives of this acquisition for the entire group; I suggest you to read again and try to understand the internal memos from your CEO on the subject.

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread
I thought this thread was about 'off the street' hiring for AC? I think there's a thread on the Air Transat link to argue about the AC/TS merger.

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread
Who cares really.
ACPA will defend the position of its members. ALPA will defend those of Transat. An Arbitrator will make the final decision, and we will all live with the result.
Make it personal if you want, or waste as much energy on it as you like. Won't change the outcome one bit.

Hey Guys, I thought this was a thread of 'off the street' Air Canada hiring? Lets keep the AC/AT to the threads on other pages.

The best way to deal with it is to make suggestions to your Union. Tell them what you would like to see. They will represent you. Their proposal to the Arbitrator will be the --only thing-- that will forward or impede your merger case.
If you feel "slighted" with the result, have a personal chat with one of your reps.
Keep emotional, reactionary crap out of the Flight Deck. Spend your layover alone if you must.
I've lived through "sour, rotten, resentful" attitudes some people carried for years with the Canadian/AC merger. It did ---not one person--- any good, and likely harmed or destroyed plenty of home relationships, and ruined many a layover. In the end it was only pure, wasted energy.

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread
Let’s stay on topic everyone, the mud slinging thread is elsewhere!
The last time I was on this thread there was talk of only 3 classes being confirmed through August. Can anyone confirm if this has changed? Is class sizes of 50 every 3 weeks the new plan?
Thanks,
T

I hope any AT guys don't get too worried. There are many of us at AC that will be happy to have you're experience join us in the flight deck. I don't get too wrapped up with work and the chips will fall where they do. Lets keep the politics to managment.
Look forward to buying the beer on any layover with any FO regardless of where they came from.

I was with the Regulator at that initial time of merger and it was known there were some ugly situations developing that caught the attention of very senior people at the HQ level and plans were introduced to exercise “ delegation of authority “ under the Minister to all of us who qualified. Probably more of a reactionary than a necessity I would say looking back.
I remember in Halifax that era talking to a Canadian pilot who thought working at AC would be same as working at the Post Office or where I worked TC because of the so called bureaucracy. I also heard from an AC employee( not a pilot) who was of the view his airline would now be like a used car lot with all the old clunker aircraft Canadian accumulated due the many mergers.
I imagine you could tell stories from that time from what you witnessed, looking back probably sad in a way.

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread
It must be a human characteristic to blame your fellow co-worker.
It's happening even today at AC. We recently had a former Rouge FA come over to Mainline, they weren't on the crew bus with us, but the original Mainline FA's were up at arms as to how someone could come from Rouge and "take" a seniority position above a Mainliner. I said "blame your Union if you don't like it, not her"...."aren't you guys one-list anyway?"
They were telling stories about how they gave her a hard time on the flight, and basically ignored her.
I expect some people will be unable to rise above this pettiness...….but most will.
We're all, on both sides, going to eat a $hit sandwitch of varying sizes......best just to grit your teeth, swallow, and be done with it.

Good man!
I'm always amazed with the odd +40 YOS skipper who doesnt get the beer.
Has had countless beers bought for him throughout his career, makes 6 times what the RP does(or flat pay FO), has a DB pension, obviously on per diems, and by going to the bitter end is slowing down the movement.
Sad.

I have to completely disagree. Everyone has different life circumstances. Sure some people are just cheap. But others have kids they are putting through school etc.... if you wana drink on your time off better bring your wallet if your with me. That being said ofcourse I'll buy ppl coffee and donuts from time to time. Just saying no one should ever expect it.
