The means available to a first year pilot at AC is a 1 bedroom apartment. If you expect to have any family life, house, kids, etc., then your spouse better be making good money too.

Agreed. Fortunately for me, I don't have that to worry about.

That being said I also live out west. If you live in say, Montreal.. You can buy a house for $200k if you need the space.

I survived just fine on Jazz FO pay, I'm sure I'll be ok if I go to AC. Is it ideal? No. But what other options do we have? I don't want to work at WJ, AT or SW. Overseas? Been looking into it but honestly if I can stay here I'd rather do that. Even if it means taking a pay cut for a few years. The long term payoff will out perform anything I'll ever make at Jazz.

Funny world - all of those crusty old Airline guys that I encountered while I was coming thrugh the trenches cautioned me to "never pay for my PPC!" Yet, to go to AC or WJ, it seems that you do just that

It is the way it is. It needs changing, but I'm not going to sit on the sidelines "waiting" for it to change as I continue to get older. I know many people in the same position as I am. Maybe I can make a difference when/if I get there.

It's those same old crusty guys who made the contracts the way they are now. The same ones who are completely out to lunch on living costs in YVR/YYZ and have no clue what it's like to be young in Canada. "Oh, but when I was young I made $5 and hour instructing." No one cares.

Lightchop is correct.....
the only solution is for everyone to stick the middle finger up....
which isn't going to happen......and even if they did stick the finger up they would outsource the flying to cheap labour
it is a problem for sure....
and unfortunately the old crusty guys are making too much to give a shit
