Perhaps they should opt to hire more based on experience than paper?

It just seems like lots of express guys are having trouble because the classes for the the last 3 years have been overwhelmingly express pilots. Concurrently they are over represented in the people getting ATOs.
If they hired 80% westjet or airforce pilots for 3 years you would say that "lots of the Air Force guys are having trouble".

Amusing. Perhaps someone can point out a stereotypical pilot group that does not have trouble?

OK. Get a degree, apply for pilot, no experience necessary.

Perhaps the traveling public should know about this.

I am thinking raybans and surfer dudes.

Hollywood rules.

Am I wrong?

Yes you are very wrong. I’m a recent OTS new hire who has never worn Raybans, am not a “Surfer Dude” and does NOT HAVE A DEGREE. I have about 4500tt, roughly 1000 of which is 705 PIC, no jet time.
I am certain the travelling public would be quite content with having me at the control of the aircraft they and their family are travelling on. Having a degree does not necessarily get you the job and not having a degree does not necessarily rule you out for the job either. They look at the complete package when making their decision to invite you for an interview and then the decision to hire you. Quality of resume (well put together, formatting), cover letter (well put together, formatting), references, level of experience, attitude in the interview, well dressed, interaction with their medical team, reference letters, internal referrals, ability to speak more than one language, etc., etc. ALL factor in to whether or not you get the job.

I am OTS but this is also true for pilots coming from the Express carriers. I know multiple Express applicants with zero post-secondary who got the job because they excelled in other areas of their application.

Simply having “experience” and total time is not enough for the AC hiring committee. My advice to anyone trying to get to AC is present them with a well put together and well-rounded application with qualifications beyond their basic requirement of 2000tt.

Think yer missing the point. The previous poster says that the only people who do not struggle through training are people with degrees? Huh? You said it yourself, you know express carrier types who turned out just fine, and I actually agree with that. Which means that I am actually agreeing with you. Ŷou didn't get that part. I find that stereotyping complete swaths of individuals as less capable and other stereotypes as more capable is ridiculous. Hence the sarcasm. The real world does not work that way. If you have a problem with that, well, you have a problem with that.

Good for you that you got the job. Many of my non university type friends, some with only high school, are going to be your captain. They obviously got through the system. How do you feel about that?

I don't think that many people are "struggling".

I dint think it's a particular demographic

Some posters' generalisations are off.

Get your shit together from multiple angles, degree or not, that's what gets you here.

Landsky has it right. The rest of you guys are confused or are only guessing at it.
