Air Canada names first new routes to be opened with A220s

14 AUGUST, 2019 SOURCE: FLIGHTGLOBAL.COM
Air Canada has disclosed Montreal to Seattle, as well as Toronto to San Jose in California, as the first new routes it will open using its new Airbus A220-300s.

The two daily services will launch on 4 May 2020. Air Canada has orders for 45 A220-300s, deliveries of which begin later this year.

The Star Alliance carrier will initially deploy the type from Montreal and Toronto on existing Canadian and transborder routes such as to Ottawa, Winnipeg, Calgary, Edmonton and New York La Guardia.

It has now revealed Montreal-Seattle and Toronto-San Jose as the first new routes to be launched with the type.

Air Canada's vice-president of network planning, Mark Galardo, describes the new routes announced as the first of "many future possibilities". He says: "The A220 will allow us to further develop our North American network, offering customers new routes and more robust year-round schedules."

Cirium schedules data shows Air Canada already serves Seattle from both Toronto and Vancouver, while it connects San Jose with Vancouver. The data shows there are no other scheduled operators on either of the new routes.

Air Canada is the first North American operator of the larger A220-300, which it will deploy in a two-class 137-seat configuration.
