Aeroplan adds Esso to rewards program

Air Canada's Aeroplan rewards program has added Imperial Oil Ltd.'s Esso gasoline chain to its growing list of partners.

Aeroplan members are now able to accumulate points at about 2,100 Esso stations by buying gas, car washes or convenience-store items. Rupert Duchesne, Aeroplan's president and chief executive officer, said members of the loyalty program can easily collect points by swiping their Aeroplan card at Esso outlets, or by electronically linking Esso's in-house "Speedpass" payment system to the card.

Aeroplan is the frequent flier subsidiary that's wholly owned by Montreal-based Air Canada's new parent company, ACE Aviation Holdings Inc. Over the past two months, Aeroplan has signed a series of partnership deals in an effort to broaden its appeal to consumers. ACE.B (TSX) rose 15 cents to $22.
