Equipment bids are conducted 4 times annually, everyone is allowed to bid, but the company doesn't have to award a pilot who is frozen their desired position even if they have the seniority to hold the position. It's important to understand the difference between
bidding a position, and being
awarded that position.
-Vacancies and/or reductions are shown on the equipment bids
-Pilots then bid for their desired positions
-Positions are awarded in order of seniority…except for pilots in their first 4 years who…
-Bid for their desired positions and can either be awarded their desired position or bypassed leaving vacant positions to be filled by upcoming New Hires.
Think of it this way, the airline views EMJ FO, 320 FO, the RP positions and LCC FO positions to all be entry level positions and aren't interested in training any pilot hired into more than one of those positions (until after a pilots first 4 years when they are free to bid as they wish).

Lets use an example. A new hire RP just got on the line, bids for a 320 FO position and gets awarded. Does that mean the RP is still frozen on his/her type for 4 years or does he/she immediately transfers to the awarded position?
If awarded a different position, they can expect to be trained into that position within a few months.

And btw outta curiosity, can an RP make more than a narrow-body FO? Both hired on the same date on the latest contract.
All FO and RP positions are paid the same rates (except LCC which are a bit less) for the first 4 years under the latest contract.
