Although not germane to Air Canada this is an exchange on PPRuNe for those who would like to work off shore.
If you do want to work off shore talk to those who have been there as sometimes the siren call of tax free income has some real serious issues

Yes it looks as Jet Airways is on the hunt again for B777 Captains.
The airline has 5 of their B777’s coming back off a dry lease program that they will now operate and crew.
There are many agents looking to recruit B777 Captains for Jet. These agents only received a finders fee as the expat pilots will get paid by Jet Airways. Some advertisements are stating they are looking for TRE/TRI, I doubt that very seriously. One recruiter indicates they are requiring one hundred (100) B777 Line Captains for June/July employment. From what I’m being told there are less than a half a dozen expat B777 captains still flying at Jet, at one time there was 80. Most routes require a second captain India does not allow first officers as cruise captains so you will have that responsibility.
Our client offers a benefit package including:
•a monthly salary of 11,000 US$
•overtime pay at 150 US $ for hours above 80 hours per month;
•a six weeks on/ two weeks off rotation schedule;
•a monthly lodging allowance of approximately 2,000 US $;
•(really they pay one lak rupee) what’s the current exchange rate?
I interviewed a while back but a month and half way from home was way too much. Hopefully the terms can be improved so both the airline and the pilots can have a livable contract.
Can anyone else add any info to this ??????????????? good, bad, or ugly
BE CAREFUL.....

I worked there for 2 years when they first set up their 777 operation. The ink wasn't dry on the contract before they started to change things. If you want to live without any 'semblance of order, this will be a job for you.
If you think of it being a romantic interlude, go for it but many of us got a bitter taste soon after we arrived there. And don't be fooled, several of us had experience with ME and Asian carriers. Some of us were TREs/TRIs on the 777s since 1996 with over 8000 on type. If you're looking to double-dip your Air Canada pension, the job is yours. You might learn what the real world does for a living.

Re: Off Shore Contracts
I'm working in the Middle East, and 11,000USD is nowhere near enough to put up with the nonsense that is flying in India. And yes, I've had friends and colleagues working the contracts for Jet, on both 777 and 737. They've all left and are either back in Canada or working for KAL. (Hardly better.) You can have money, you can have lifestyle. Pick one.
Personally you couldn't pay me ANY amount of money to work for an Indian carrier, after living in Dubai (aka India lite) for almost a decade and operating to India constantly. Go to Asia or the Middle East and maybe you'll get screwed, maybe you'll get lucky, but India will be all lies and broken promises and crazy, disorganized madness. Did I mention I say that as an employee of a Middle-Eastern based carrier?!?
Best comment ever, "learning what the real world does for a living". Most expat jobs would make an AC pilot assume the fetal position and cry for their mommies. (With no disrespect to the few outliers I count as colleagues who HAVE persevered and toughed it out in the overseas gigs.)

Re: Off Shore Contracts
Recruiter sent an email to many retired/force retired AC pilots. He stated that the age was 63. Looked into the actual contract from Jet, and it stated 62.
As posted above, have heard the same constant theme of getting screwed by Jet, and the working conditions, living conditions are very poor. Also, heard, that Jet screwed many pilots out of money etc.
They cant get qualified pilots for many reasons, and they (Jet Airways), have a very bad reputation.

Too late! We already are in the fetal position blubbering about how we got "taken advantage of" during negotiations. It's starting to become clear that we have a pretty good gig here at home with high wages, pensions, health benefits etc.complexintentions wrote:I'm working in the Middle East, and 11,000USD is nowhere near enough to put up with the nonsense that is flying in India.
