Is this a PFO or Just be Patient and Wait for a Call?

Post by DHC-1 Jockey »

I interviewed last summer and got the email inviting me to reapply in 6 months. I did that 4 weeks ago and got the email below last week. I've heard before that the "we wish you success in your current position..." is the quote unquote final PFO, but they do say they may contact me for a new interview. How do you read this? Should I keep updating my file every 3 months and be patient?

Email:

Thank you for applying for the position of Pilot at Air Canada.

As indicated in your application, you have been previously interviewed for this position. Please note that we continue to review files for candidates that were not previously selected for employment. If there are any questions regarding your candidacy or if we wish to invite you back for a subsequent interview, we will contact you directly.

Thank you for considering Air Canada as a prospective employer.

We wish you every success in your current position and in the pursuit of your career goals.

I wouldn't take that as a negative at all. They are starting to call back people who interviewed previously. In my opinion it just looks like a new email they are sending to people. I just take that to say that even though you got PFO once, make sure you keep updating because we are reviewing these files in the future. I would consider this more of a positive than a negative. I would keep updating. It shows you're still interested and will show them what you have been doing with your time and new accomplishments you may achieve.

I received the exact same email just the other day. I interviewed several years ago and have an internal reference, glass time, and plenty of 705 turbo PIC. It's not looking good!

hard to tell, isn't? It can be interpreted both ways as it is representative of a typical HR email to satisfy some internal guideline and at the same time not to tell you anything. Who knows why they even bother.
I would agree that it is more on a positive side, however, with limited chance.

Instead of asking us, why not send them an email back, asking the same question...

I got that exact email a few weeks ago. My first interview was 6 years ago, and I got the 6 month pfo at that time so continued to update my application. Ironically, I got an email from them about a month ago asking me to re-apply. This sort of felt like a permanent pfo...without even interviewing. I'm soo confused...:)

I'll probably do this when I get a chance. I only ask on here because I can only assume others like me have received this email in the past, and they might have the prior experience to tell me what it means without going to AC HR.

I got it the other day too,

I think it clearly says "Don't call us, we'll call you" and "thanks for applying but move on with your career and best of luck"
I don't see how you could put a positive spin on that?

What a kick in the nuts

For all of us that have received that email, I know a way out: just pay your $60,000 and go sit right seat at GGN for four years. Seems pretty simple to me...:).

On a more serious note: I would say just keep updating your application and continue improving your credentials. I would think they'd have to eventually re-call people, it's happened before.

I interviewed back in Jan 2012 then a month later got an email with the message "All applicants are welcome to re-apply in six (6) months time from the date of interview. And we encourage you to keep your online application up-to-date and ensure all professional and contact information is current. We appreciate the time you took to meet with us and thank you for your continued interest in working at Air Canada. We wish you much success in your future endeavors and aviation career." so I have been doing just that. I also reapplied to the most recent posting and received successful confirmation for that posting but so far no other emails at all. Would really like a second chance but there doesn't seem to be much else I can do at this point. Just keep updating my profile / resume every few months.
