Encore pay question.

#1 Post by duncan » Tue Jul 21, 2015 3:04 pm

The other day I noticed an encore crew change in the late morning (around 10am) at the Fort St. John airport. The crew must have only done a couple flights that day with a block of less than 3hrs. Is this a normal day for pairings? Or is the block usually much higher?

Just curious if there is a minimum daily credit that the crews are paid? Or if it's strictly flight time.

Cheers.

Okay; which brings to my next question, I've noticed a lot of crews recently updating there true airspeed with center to read 320 true. I'm assuming they where flight planned at the 350ish range. Is this in proposal of block growth? (If so kudos to them) or is it due to congestion upon gate arrival?

There has been a major effort for departures to be early and arrivals on time over the past year, without padding block time, this is the most likely explanation for what you have observed. Encore has gone from an early OTP rating 2 years ago around 50% A15 to best in the world for low cost airlines last month: http://www.flightstats.com/go/Stats/air ... Reports.do. Mainline has also moved from worst North American major airline for OTP 2 years ago to near the top this past quarter due to the same initiative.

Not block growth.

Encore crews are blocked at 80 hours per month right now. Average credit (including 4 hours credit/day of reserve) is still in low 70's I think. You can slow down all you want and crews won't see an extra dime on their pay cheques. It's all about saving fuel and not arriving 30 minutes early.

Does being blocked at 80 hours mean you are guaranteed that amount. What if you fly less or more?

Not blocked at 80. I'd say the average is 70 right now. We are guaranteed 80 hours of pay. Any changes we make to our schedule are worked off of the 80. So if I am blocked 70 hours, and they call me on a day off I would get paid for 84 hours not 74. (Min daily credit for day off is 4).
