What's the upgrade time for a guy OTS coming to mainline?
Hard to guess accurately with the new PTA just coming into effect and the fact nothing is constant in aviation. If
I had to bet on an approximate time frame I’d guess 10-11 years given current rates.

Looking to clarify some things I've read on this thread. I saw someone mention that YYC is now the more senior base and a new hire would expect approx 2 yrs wait in YYZ. Is that 2 years for an OTS guy like myself or would that timeline be for an encore pilot? I understand this might be a "can of worms" type question.
Lastly, what's the current wait to YVR for FOs? Is getting assigned YYZ right out of the gate pretty much a sure thing or is the large numbers that Dave posted a sign of quick entry into other bases..?
-Thanks
The ex-Encore guys getting back to YYC in the latest bid have around 4.5-5 years of seniority.
YYZ out of the gate is a sure thing.

As of 7 days ago, January 1st, they have YoS.
Better wait till they actually dish out the YOS level compensation before saying that. It’s already 12 months overdue, there’s zero reason to have faith in this management.

So what are the FO/Captain rates until YOS 12?

At least at Swoop you could see the left seat in less than a decade.
I suppose it depends on what is important to you in life, having the ego trip of four bars or making money? If you can't stand to be an FO, I guess you go to Swoop and make FO wages. Or, you go to mainline and out-earn a swoop captain by year 4 as an FO... then keep out earning the swoop captain for the rest of your career no matter what seat you sit in.

I'm going to knock this up a notch with my spice weasle. Bam!

1200 numbers from the bottom of the list to the most junior mainline captain. At 50-70 upgrades a year...

Numbers released for 2020 had 100+ upgrades and those numbers probably don’t account for the junior captains leaving for AC. Either way it’s going to be difficult to attract/retain quality OTS candidates.

For sure. Career and earning progression is totally lame.

Ok....He asked a question, I gave him some first hand info and a response. Isn’t that the purpose of this forum? What made you butt hurt, you didn’t like my response? What’s you’re opinion on his question then?
For someone who doesn’t like people having “an opinion”, you picked a real good site to spend your time on.

If YYC is 4 years would it be safe to assume someone wanting to get out to YVR is going to be 6 years for an FO seat ?
It took 4 years to get a YVR base as of the last bid. YYC was about the same time.

It’s not 12 months overdue, Jan 1st, 2020 is per the contract.....

An one-off year probably won’t make much of difference with those kind of numbers long term. This year doesn’t seem to be shaping up to expectations from what I heard. Next bid is projecting 14 upgrades?

WJ vs AC isn’t even a competition anymore.
Those 14 are for April. Remember, bids are being done monthly now vs quarterly. I've deleted the emails, but I think there have been 10-14 per month so far this year (January - March). So they are trending a little higher than forecast for upgrades.

Hi
You are correct!
Looking ahead at the next 3 bid projections it’s over 50 upgrades. Most junior YVR FO award now (with the latest bid) is July 2017. This will continue to move up as the upgrading continues.
Cheers
