Commuting with Swoop

Post by ehv8oar »

Anyone know the commuting policy for Swoop? Can you be based in Hamilton and commute out of Halifax for example?

Thanks for any info.

I don't believe they have a commuting policy. It's on your own dime.

Extremely hard to commute when working 20 days a month.

I do believe swoop folks have full westjet travel privileges, however there is nothing between YHM and YYZ so that will be quite hard and at your own accord.

Ah so no chance of just jumping on the Swoop flight from YHZ to YHM then.

Just been reading the other threads here and it does seem you work some pretty long hours and days there.

If you have the hours for Swoop, go straight to WestJet mainline. If you don't, go to Encore.

The Q is a fun airplane to fly.

I think the hours for Westjet and Encore are the same now.

I'd sooner work for a Halifax based 704/705 company than commute to SWOOP of all places.

You'll probably take home more money if you fly for PAL or EVAS.

I commuted on Swoop for about a year. I averaged 9-11 hotels a month, and had to pay stand by travel on WJ (around $12-1500 a month after tax $’s). You cannot use the jump seat on WJ or Encore, nor can you use any of the WJ reciprocated jumpseats. Swoop is not particularly commuter friendly, not to mention you have little control of what you get for schedule.

Thanks all for the info.

Surely it must be possible to jumpseat or go standby on your own airline though. Swoop does a decent amount of flights from Halifax to Hamilton.

It's just whether the cost of doing so would be worth it in renting a room, other transport costs etc

Swoop currently flies from YHZ to YHM 2-3 times a week. not enough to commute unless you always work on Tuesday and Thursday.

When I left there was no ability to jump seat on Swoop even though you flew there. The PTA (pilot transfer agreement) should be resolved one way or another soon enough. You most likely will be better off going to WJ/Encore in regards to commuting, schedule bidding, fatigue mitigation, support, benefits, contract, holidays, etc, etc, etc

Yes co-joe it is pretty f’d up.

And you will be charged for a coke, only water, tea, and coffee are free for flight crew. Once you’ve sold your self respect for the job you can put the $ toward your coke 😉
